ive just had a thought concerning the topic of rivers, not in the aesthetic sense but in the physical.
for instance you have X river running from mountain range in your civ and you have desert to the west of the river, you could eitehr divert the river into lower gradients (if it is used) or dam it.
another aspect would be for your neighbouring civs, suppose you control the source of river X which runs into civ B and decide to dam/divert it to destroy the civ? no doubt there would be serious diplomatic consequences but it would certainly interest gameplay for me.
