In order to trade luxuries/resources with another Civ, I have to build a road from my Capital to thier Capital, right?

Do I have to manually set a Worker to build the road ONE SQUARE at a time, because Ctrl-R (build road to....) doesn't work when I select the AI's Capital as the destination.

Can one of my minor cities that IS connected to my Capital by road and is closer to the AI's Capital be used as a connecting link ?

AND FINALLY, would Ctrl-SHIFT-R work to link one of my linked cities to the AI's Capital? (I can't try this right now, cuz I'm at work)

Thanks for your help..AGAIN!:D

Right.

I don't know about that one...maybe 'build road to' only works within your borders?

Yes.

Ctrl-Shift-R would be 'build railroad to', wouldn't it?

I'm just guessing too but, maybe you have to pick a square beside the capitol without roads to connect it. And yes, you can use one of the other cities linked to your capitol.

In all my games, the neighbouring civ always has roads linking most of their cities together. All you have to do is find any square with roads that is connected to their capitol and then link it to one of your roads.

"Build road to" a square means build a road from my current square to that square including both. So then, if you can go to the desitnation square, it's on an island, on a lake/ocean, or is an enemy city then you cannot build a road to it. Select nearby to build a road.

What it comes down to, is that, so long as your captial is 'connected' to their captial, using any combination of airports, harbors, roads and other cities, you can trade with each other.

You can even connect one of *your* cities to your own empire through another empire if you are at peace with them. I had to do this once when I found an unclaimed coal deposit late in the game and had to make a mad rush halfway across the planet to get to it. I was coalless at the time. That little city was completely surrounded by the English, but once I connected it to their network, the coal started...uh...flowing across my empire. Of course, then the Germans found out about it and shut it down. Bastards.
