COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A judge set $75,000 bond Tuesday for a man who allegedly robbed a gas station and was shot by the clerk.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said Desmond Thompson entered a Sunoco station on Cleveland Avenue on Sunday morning, implied he had a weapon and told the clerk to come out from behind the counter.

The clerk, Karen Smith, gave the robber cash, NBC 4 reported. Then she shot the suspect. The event was captured by the store's surveillance camera.

Smith would not be charged, deputies said.

This is why I oppose gun control. :goodjob:

I'm gonna guess he didn't actually have a weapon. Never try to rob someplace and say you have a weapon when you actually don't.

Hah, tough luck dude. You broke the law and got shot for it, fairs fair.

Excellent, now stick him in a nice dark little 5x5 room for a year or two, and we won't ever have to worry about him robbing ever again! :goodjob:

Fair enough. The link to the video won't work though...just gives me a blank page.

Same thing happened for me, you have to turn off your pop-up blocker (assuming you're using one)

This is a good reason why NOT to rob people.

Notice how once he has the money and starts walking backwards he stops pointing the "gun" at the clerk? How stupid could he be?!?

Poetic Justice at its finest.

Oh?
Do you have statistics on that?

Or should I provide you with statistics that such treatment actually increase the chance for him robbing again?

I'd do the same as the clerk. Its similar if someone breaks into my house. You do it then you get everything you're gonna get, you're leaving through the window. Call it "Occupational Hazard"

Good. :goodjob: She shoud have finished him off though.

She showed good (and proper) restraint. She didn't shoot him when he asked for the money (I might have), because she figured he'd just take the money and leave (I probably wouldn't have figured that). Once he's down, though, she would have risked homicide charges had she finished him off, and rightly so.

and @MarineCorps: Nope, he didn't have a weapon.

And according to news stories, she never fired a gun before. :wow: :hatsoff:

I would have taken the money out of the robber's wallet (assuming it isn't the store's cash.)

Erm, since this was caught on camera, stealing from him would've been too.

This isn't as bad as a guy I graduated with from high school. He tried robbing a gun shop a few months after we graduated. One of his buddies got shot in the face. Shortly before our 10-year class reunion he got out of prison.
