This may be a stupid question, but everytime I play with alot of AI's, one asks for a tech and I say no, they declare war on me, then they get everyone else to do the same. Do you need anything specific to ask for a Military Alliance or Rights Of Passage? It is really bugging me because almost everytime I play, it is not all for all, it is usually 7-to-1, me being 1. I always ask contact people but it never gives me the option to do so. Please help.

You must click on the star type symbol beside the name of your capital. Then a menu e=with all known civs comes up, and you can establish embassys, for a fee. After that, the choice should appear in the diplo(trade) screen.

Edit: You also must have Nationalism for a MPP, and writing for everything else.

If the others civs are always attacking you is because maybe you're too weak or you don't trade with them... also you should build a good army so they don't bother you...

And yes, you must have Writing for ROP

Sometimes it's a good idea to give in to AI demands. Next time, if someone declares war on you, you could try to get the others to side with you. You can do this by making a military alliance against the agressor (this only works if you're already at war)

You need to know writing, then establish ambassy by double clicking on the logo near your capital city name. ( it cost money. around 30-50 gold in old time). You must be at peace with the civilisation you want to establish ambasy.

To minimize declaration of war on you, be sure you have 1 spearman and 1 archer per city. because a.i. know how well defended you are ( yes it s a cheat ), and keep a few archer or horseman near your border.

If an a.i. declare war on you, then immediatly choose an ally, your ally should be close to your ennemy, so he will engage fight. most of the time they will fight between themselve and leave you alone. To make an ally you will have to pay, lump- sum gold, or a technology, or a luxuries ( if you have raod or sea connection). Most of the time i can make alliance for a single luxuri trade.

Dont forget that alliance last 20 turn , so dont make peace with your ennemy until alliance is ended ( you will need to call your ally and deselect alliance from active trade menu). If you make peace while you have an alliance, then your reputation is screw up and it will be harder to trade in the futur.

I think but I am not sure that establishing a embassy improves relations with other CIVs.
I have just started using ROPs (before I was dead against other Civs walking on my land) in my current game.

I signed ROPs early on with the Greeks and Romans (I think that some Civs maybe more honourable than others and I classify these as honourable).
We shared the same continent and at the start of the ROP the Romans were slightly more powerful than the Greeks or the Egyptains (me).

From the start of the game until 1260AD I never heard of any war between any Civs.
I put this down to my early ROPs.
I also traded regularly and when a request was made for an unfavourable trade I would give my territory map as a gift.
War was started by me trying and failing to plant a spy in Moscow twice in one turn.
