RTW Gold and Mods

I have the Gold Edition of Rome Total War, i.e. both Rome Total War and Barbarian Invasion on one DVD. (The games have seperat.exe, of course, but share an installer.)
So far, I've tried to install both Europa Barbarorum and Rome: Total Realism, but both of them inevitably crashed. EB always froze on the initial loading screen (the result of 3 attempts to install it), while RTR would initially work, but crashed soon into the game (once when I tried to start a campaign, once after starting a campaign when trying to bring up the description for a unit.)
So, basically, anyone have any idea what the problem is? Is RTW Gold simply incompatible with mods? Or is it just my problem?

EB seems to "freeze" on my computer, but the reality is that it takes about 3468748956345 minutes to load...

RTR uses an earlier version of Rome, and is probably notcompatable with the Gold Version (Which,I think, is version 1.5?) EB is for 1.5 so check your version # and patch it accordingly.

I bought the Eras pack and mine is default 1.6

I tried that, but apparently you can't patch Gold Edition, so, yeah, I guess if me and CivFan both have the same problem it might be a Gold Edition thing.
Y'know, I'm almost tempted to buy a copy of Rome TW just for the mods...

There is RTR platinum which is compatible with Barbarian invasion. Some other mods that use BI.exe are XGM and Chivalry:Total War. You can check them out at the Total War Center site.

The Fourth Age mod, which is an excellent LoTR mod, uses BI.

You can change EB 1.1 to run on BI.exe that is patched to 1.6.

It just requires some easy editing.(more like copying certain files and renaming) I did it in a matter of 2 minutes. Although doing this will not include night battles or other BI features- shield wall, war cry, etc.. To get such features one will have to manually edit Descr_unit and character trait files. the descr_unit will likely take quite some time.

EB takes quite a while to reach the menu screen. Best suggestion is have some patience. It could possibly take a little longer the first time because it will have to develop the map rvm file. If installing the EB 1.1, I think it is best to not install the extra features (trivial script) otherwise some other steps will be needed to make it 1.6 BI compatible.

I dont know who this is directed at but EB describes a particular mod. Europa Barbarorum. A mod that stress historical accuracy.
