hey all! I'm new to civ games, i just bought civ 3. I've played two good games now and have a good idea plus i have a abckgorund in strategy games so i picked the idea up fast.

first, i noticed i always made it quick to knights and that's where i usually attacked or got involved in ym first war. I was playing babs, until i discovered india's elephants! These are awesome for an early middle age rush.

Culture is great! I usually get about 6-8 cities up good and run them all the way until they are all SUPER 12 pop cities by the begginning or early middle ages. Then I build a row of new cites along borders. I allow culture to spread, and assimilitate enemy border villages, however if they send ANY people out i declare war immediately and crush them in 10 or so turns. not bad for knights) I retake their cities and i usually raze at least 4-5 of them just because i raze one for every man i lose (revenge  ) then i consolidate my forces build up my new lands and border up tot the next guy. I can usually get two people out of the game byt the end of the middle ages and my culture is THROUGH THE ROOF. everyone is is awe. My only problem is in trade where i can't get people to seem to be anything but polite. I want some people who want to give me everthing. Anyways i routinely get hundreds of dollars for my maps because i explore.

good strategy.
I've played dozens of games and as far as I can tell it takes many millenia of good relations (and trading or giving tech away) to get other civs to be "gracious" towards you. Also, the next most powerful civ (compared to yourself) will rarely, if ever be anything but polite towards you. However, if you're thinking that this will translate into them "giving you everything" you'll be waiting a loooong time. The civs that are way behind in research WILL give you tons of gold per turn, luxuries, etc. for tech. But a civ that is gracious toward you and has no cash simply CAN'T give you anything. It's all economics. Hoped this helped.

"do or do not, there is no try."
