I'm curious to know what you think are the major problems with Civ IV? Not to doubt you're sincerity (meaning, I do doubt it), but anytime someone over-uses question marks I always question the source. :)

I am tired of the video memory issue. I've tried solutions found here, but honestly, would rather wait for an official patch than muck around with fan-made fixes (no offense intended).

I haven't played the game in weeks because I do not like to crash every 20 minutes. It seems I'm not alone either what I read.

I miss my Civ! Please, oh, please make it stable!

I want them to fix the memory leak. I enjoy large maps, lots of opponents, and marathon games.

Ditto. these memory leaks (with a system AND Video Card that is above recommended specs) are really putting a dampner on my fun playing Civ. It wouldn't be too bad if the load time for the game wasn't so long... I could live with CTD issues, but when I launch the game and have to wait 2.5 minutes to get to the load game prompt AND tehn wait another 30-45 seconds for the game to load, that just kills me.

Here's hoping for something soon

The memory leak issue plus the pegging of the CPU at 100% in Task Manager would be two problems I'd like to have solved. My O/S is moderate at 64MB's of RAM and jumps all the way to 300MB's when CIV IV is playing. It is simply astonishing how this games uses so much memory. A game issue to get fixed is definitely the smart tags when the mouse hovers over units and technologies.

Civ 4 v1.52
Windows 2000 (no service packs)
2.4GHz P4 1MB Cache S478
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128MB
Intel PERL865D M/B

I'd be happy if I could just play more than a few turns without it locking up the computer. Weird thing is I'm above recommended specs yet on my wifes computer which is below minimum specs it runs, albeit a bit slowly.

Yep, I agree 100%...fix the leaks.

I'm running on an athlon 2600 w/ 256M system ram and a 128M geforce 6200. In the early game, it's not a big deal, but by the 1700's, even on a standard size map the game becomes unplayable. I can load it up and play for about a turn or two, and at first it only takes it 5-10 seconds to switch units or refocus the map....but it's like every move is slower than the one before, and by the fourth turn or so it takes a full minute just to show me the next unit when I hit space bar on the one before. Hitting enter to end the turn takes around 5-6 minutes, assuming no diplomatic meetings come up, which add another 3-4 minutes.

Somehow, I still plod through. Usually, this involves me walking into the room and hitting a button, then walking back out to go do something useful for a few minutes. This strikes me as wholly unacceptable. If this game needs to have a 256M card and 1G of system ram, the box should not have claimed it can run on 64/256. But I don't think that's the issue...the fact that it runs halfway playable at first makes me think it's losing that memory somewhere, not just using it all up.

Of course, I can't see any reason at all to cram all this useless eye candy into a game of this genre anyway...I don't see that it's necessary for any of the real gameplay enhancements of civ4, and it certainly limits their target systems. I'd give somebody $100 right now to port the exact civ4 ruleset to freeciv so I could have a reasonable, well-thought, and fast interface.

I'm curious too. Has anyone seen a Take 2 employee state that one is in the works for CivIV? I'm a cynic, I'll admit, though I'd be delighted to know that devs are still being paid to work on this title.

What kind of video card do you have?

Damn, I waited for the patch before buying the game and it is still unplayable. It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery
of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.

My box purrs like a kitten with all my other games, never locks up except when playing civ4, and when I can get it out of a crash without rebooting there seems to be a major mem leak. Back on the shelf until the next patch 'cause I don't plan on messing around for hours, that's what they should have been paying testers to do instead of foisting the work onto the buying public!
