I have had this game and I have all the specs, directx, everything I need I believe. But I install the game, then I play it, but the intro screens are all blue (sound is still rolling), and when it gets to the menu, the earth background is there, but the actual menu is invisible! What do I do??? I cant play this game and i want to alot!

I have the same problem. Game loads but text on menus is invisible. The only thing that has changed is that i installed a couple newer games, like the Settlers (which sucked) so i go back to play my favorite game- and now it doesnt work either! help!

Ha, now i think my disk wont work, when i start to install it, it says Access Denied on C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/binkw32.dlll.

Ahh.. i think the disk is scratched...ughh help? Or am I screwed for now?

I searched my civ4 directory and could not find "civilizationIV.ini" or anything close to it. Just .ini files for the different senerios. I'm running Beyond the Sword- guess i should have said that earlier.

You need to look in My Documents\My Games\Beyond The Sword. If you have BTS then you will also have the original Civ4 game. The .ini file will be in My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 for the original game. Does that not work as well or is it just BTS?

Alright, just like that other guy- Vista wont even recognize the BTS CD is in the drive any more.

But anyway, Civ4 works - but Warlords has the same 'blank menu' problem. here is the log file.

Thanks! The GUI textures thing worked! I wonder what could have changed in my system to cause it to crap out like that... anyway- now i can play my favorate game again. Without you guys, id probably go rent Halo or something... or pre-order Spore.

Have you tried
GUIManagedTextures = 1

I have the similar problems as those 2 guys, but i cant understand where im supposed to put that "GUIManagedTextures = 1" Ive tried to type it in the ini file but it aint working, or is it already there and im just supposed to change that number there, cause i dont have that text there.

My comp is 2,2ghz 512mb 256mb gfx 5500

Welcome to CFC :)
And yes it is already in the .ini it is set to 0 by default so you have to change it to 1

Thanks :) Wow, i think im screwed then, cause i dont have it in the ini, what could it be then, why i dont have it?
Oo btw which ini file do u mean, cause i reckon there is several of them?

there is one for every version Vanilla, Warlords and BtS they are located in
my games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\
my games\Warlords\
my games\Beyond the Sword\
you have to change it in the one for the version you are using, BtS definitely has it in the .ini. They are all called CivilizationIV.ini :)

Ok, found it, thing is that i Dont have that part in my ini file at all, im really getting frustrated, ive spend 3 days trying to solve this problem, and nothing so far :l guess my civ4 experience was kinda limited.

I am sorry that it gives you such a hard time :(
Did you install the latest patch (3.13)?
Before you decide to give up please voice your frustration to Firaxis/Take2 - I have seen your post in the Fix-It List, but since this is not a site run by the publishers it would be good to let them know directly, e.g. by posting in their support forum or using their email.
