I downloaded the demo and it runs choppy even on the lowest settings. I've tried loading dx11 and dx9 and they both run the same. I went to srtest.com and it told me that I failed the minimum requirements, yet I don't understand how. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlan II P320 Dual core processor
2.7GB RAM
Windows 7 64bit
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250

Everything else I've tried on this laptop has run smooth including Starcraft 2.

Can anyone give me insight as to why Civ V runs so choppy and slow?

Your GPU is really bad

Can anyone give me insight as to why Civ V runs so choppy and slow?

a) Your CPU just meets the minimum requirements
b) Your GPU is probably below minimum requirements
c) With 3GB of memory, parts or all of your RAM might only run in single channel mode.
d) Your GPU uses "shared memory" so it has to compete with the CPU for memory bandwidth, which excarbates points a), b) and c)

A "new" laptop does not equal a laptop suitable for new games. Starcraft was designed to run well on low-end machines, Civ does run horribly even on pretty decent computers :(

Thank you, Civ King and Tokala. I appreciate your feedback. That's very unfortunate. I don't understand why they decided to make this installment of the Civ series so hard on people's systems. I always thought that one of the great things about Civ was that it was easy on the PC..

I guess I won't be playing Civ V for a very long time :(
