Runtime terminates in unusual way

I've been running Civ 4 without problems for a few months, patches 1.52 and 1.62 installed smoothly. Couple of days ago had problems with modem (now fixed) after hitting the mains power switch by mistake. Since then everything working fine except Civ 4 doesn't load past first couple of screens and I get the message 'Runtime error civ4.exe runtime terminated in an unusual way'.
Any thoughts.
Also only support numbers I found for 2kgames were for US or Canada. is there a UK number for them?

Edit: fixed by system restore on May 20. Still useful to know if UK contact number for 2kgames
