Hi evereybody, im new on this board, have been reading for a while now, mostly game reviews, they re great ;].. feels like playing civ at work ;]...

i`ve been resisting previous civ series but 4th grabbed me by the balls hehe... but i`ve been die-hard RTS fan for a long time now...

so lets talk about strategy, about military rushs manily. i did a brief search and didn`t find anything so i guess it hasnt been posted yet...

as we know each civilization get their own special unit that is bit stronger than it`s other civilizaton equals, so obviously, civ that gets special unit game beginning is perfect for rushing (AoE 2 term i guess ;])... i suppose it is possible to do with equal units too but ofcourse its more complicated then..

1. Malinese skrimisher rush... land rush, works if you find your "victim" on same landmass and fortunatly not far away from your capital...

actually its quite simple.. mali empire gets skirmisher unit (4 str) instead of archer (3str)... so thing to do is that you construct barracks and start creating skrimishers. when u`ve found your closest neighbor just go there with your army and block his citty/citties & pillage ewerything around there, wery possible that you wont be able to take the city but it will be under heavy blocade so there can be no improvements around it and your enemy cant get to any resources, just wach out for some settler parties that may try to escape blockade, wery common vs AI, or maybe let those new cities grow to lvl 2 and just take them with violence and bloodshed...

this works even better if the city has rivers/forests/hills around it.. you can get like +100% str just placing unit across the river(+50) on hill(+25) with forest(+25) ! and that`s eaven without unit proms and defend!

and most important thing DON`T let your enemy access (or quickly cut his sources) any horses/copper/iron, without those resources any stronger unit than your skrimishers he can send to you is catapult...

so while he cannot improve his cities tiles or create another cities you just expand your empire freely till you feel like creating some swordsman and catapults to end his torment...

a sign of good strategy is to build a road up to enemies city so renforcements can get there quickly, also you`ll need that road anyways when you`ll conquer it... wonderfull if u get to capture enemies worker... just make him do it ;]...

on prince (lame ;F) difficulty, rushing 2 enemies at once it was just freakin easy ;[... well ofcourse AI is quite dumb in theese situations, got to try it against human...

The AI is downright moronic when it comes to dealing with this. They turtle and occasionally send a unit to attack you and consequently just give you exp. Humans are likely to handle it better. This is not a rush (a term a lot older than AoE 2) though, it's harassment. A rush is when you produce a ton of units early and wipe out a civ or two. Persians, Incans and Romans all have very good rushing UU's.

Never thought of using Mali for harassment though. I think even humans will have problems with that.

yeah, well maby it`s my nostalgie for Aoe2 archer rush ;]

actually wasn`t those aztec who got a special unit insted of warrior with +100& vs archer bonus ? i tried this kind of strategy against 2 AI emperors at once... was going quite well until i made stupid mistake and let one of them access horses...

about stupid AI reaction sending worthless suicide stacks... well yes, i guess you could just wait for bigger army and attack at once, but its logical that in same time your enemy can make bigger army (city improvements) and also they will have defend bonus...

Against good human opponents, you should expect harassment from any civ.

The counter is to pile a bunch of archers on top of your bronze/horses while they are being connected. Use warriors instead of archers against the Inca...

Only thing this rush can have on any other rush is that you dotn need to hook up resources. But a skirmisher won't haev an easy time taking a city from archers and here is why. Archer has a city defense bonus, hill defense bonus and a city on a hill forget about it, you need 3 to 1 ratio atleast,a ssuming the archers arent promoted. So to do this you really need more than one city, which means you cant do it as fast as would be advised. It may work agianst AI, but a player I dont know. By the time you can roll those guys in on me I either have lots of chariots or promoted Axemen. And my axemen are usually promoted with Cover, so they'll eat your guys up before you get to my city.

Yeah. It will take you time to build those. Also building lots of military units early will slow your growth too much. Also, how would you know where my copper if you dont have the tech :).
