Is anyone else having the same problem?

Everytime I start the game thru single player and pick the same credentials for the world, the map comes out EXACTLY the same, the only difference being the location of resources...

You must have set a specific seed for the map generation. Try to use the parameter 0 to set it to random.

It could also be your random generator that's stuck. Try to hit it repeatedly with a mallet :)

Check Sirian's map guide in the stickies

There are several maps for multiplayer that are not generated but pre-programmed...

That is not correct.

All of the maps you can choose from Play Now or Custom are RANDOMLY GENERATED. Every map I worked on or produced is randomly generated, including Great Plains and Terra. All of them! Only the Earth maps and the maps associated with the mods and scenarios are prefabricated.

There is some kind of issue plaguing some players where the random seeds are repeating. If the same seed is used more than once, it will produce an identical map. Why some seeds are repeating for some players, I do not know. Anybody having this problem, please visit this thread for more info, including instructions on a temporary workaround:

I must be misunderstanding the guide, or are these not selectable in SP.

* Hub, Ring, and Wheel

These scripts are completely artificial, intended to supply balanced environments for MP action.

*goes to check out identical map issue*

There is also some kind of bug, causing the map script generate the same map from time to time... there was a thread in the bugs forum...

Artificial as in "bears no resemblance to nature, logic, or reality."

They are randomly generated, though. Some high level elements are hardcoded, but many details are highly variable. Try them. :)

I had a similar 'problem' where in all my first games I got exactly the same opponents, including the same leaders. And every time I got Mali as my neighbours. I think I restarted it about 5 times to check this and it did every time. Then I started a game as one of the opponents I always got and it was over. Very strange. Now I don't experience it anymore.

Does the game still use linked Civilizations? I seem to get the same neighbors if I choose to play the same civilization. If so, where do I turn this off, as I play the same civ alot and like to mix the opponents up.

I don't know how, but I sure hope someone here can tell us!
Now I don't get all the same civs as opponents anymore, but I do get Mali as a neighbour all of the time. And I started games with France, Germany, India, England and now Rome. All of them get Mali as a closest neighbour. And therefor the first one I meet.
And have you noticed that when Russia is in it, it is always Catharine and they rule the first few era's? They are always the one I have to race for religions and special bonus like Great People or free tech (Music, Liberalism, and so on).

I've gotten the same map twice (I could tell after 3 turns, so just started a new game).

I keep getting the same opponents, even when I change my civ.
