Satellite tech no longer revealing map?

Anyone else notice this? I was playing a prince game as Japan and researched satellites and the map wasnt revealed like it has been in every other civ since 1.

I don't believe it does anymore. With the removal of tech trading, I wish it did, though. Seems like a nice compromise (it comes so late anyway). It's a simple mod that, if no one else beats me to it, I'll make as soon as the mod tools are released. Hopefully they actually consider it in a patch as well (although they don't usually add features in patches).

Thats something that I dont understand. You launch a satellite and yet the world is still covered in darkness. Seems like an oversight along with a few other things.

Yeah, I can see getting rid of map trading to encourage exploration (although dollars to donuts the first expansion has a ton of diplomacy thrown back in), but by freaking satellites I think it's safe to say you can show the map. It's basically only a question of whether you bothered to send some ships to uncover all the open water or maybe you've beefed with a guy for so long you never got open borders to take a peak.

I'm guessing it's partially an issue with the discovery of natural wonders for why they didn't reveal map or map trade, but that's purely a guess.

I think the developers wanted to make a greater emphasis on exploration. Generally, I like the change as now explorers actually mean something, and also there is still unowned land in later eras which I really really like. It's more historically accurate, too to have that.

Regarding the satellites, I actually like that it doesn't just reveal all land everywhere. However, I kinda wish there was a compromise fix to this where you could choose a large 9 or 12-hex (or so) spot to train your satellites on. For each turn thereafter this same area would be revealed automatically unless you changed the location of your satellite.

This way you have a new ability to see somewhere, but you still have a strategic choice of where this is. Would make it fun and still require you to recon for enemy force buildups, wonder-building, etc.

Sorry to resurect an old thread - but I didn't find anything one this. I've noticed satellites have started revealing the map - but I haven't seen it in any patch notes. Anybody know where this came from?

It does.
Maybe you have a pirated version of the game ? :D

Lol. Mine still doesn't. Time to update!

Yes it does. You're either a pirate and/or you haven't allowed steam to patch your game.

I thought there were no more pirates in Civ 5?
But yeah, Steam updates the game whether you like it or not, no idea if you can turn that off?

Yeah I like the fact that Satellites reveal the map now, More often than not, I'm always locked in a one region of the world with enemies on all sides I refuse to open borders cuz of so many reasons I could list.

And more often than I'd actually think would happen Submarines tend to be my main explorer units because I'm locked in by ice XD Especially on pangea maps lol.

His post was from September 25th, and then the satellites tech didn't reveal the map like it does now.

This.

Everyone should make it a habit to please check posting date before throwing your 2 cents into the ring. Rather than start with the baseless accusations.
