Okay, I gotta be missing something. Say I've played a Civ4 game and it had a map I liked. How do I get that map and reuse it--just the map, not the initial placements of Civs or anything else in the game? Basically, I want to play a new custom game but not generate a map, rather use one that's been saved either as a game save or in World Builder.

I figure this has been discussed but nothing I searched for turned up that topic and every search with "map" in it is refused for having a key word that's too small.

Thanks,
Dick

You could do it by going into the World Builder and saving the map. Then you could manually edit that file to change player locations etc. Unfortunately that might be more work than it's worth.

I just remembered that the map is saved at the begining of the game as WBQuickSave so you could copy that and edit it if you decide that it's worth trying.

Yeah, WB allows me to save and edit the map but not change what civs are used. Same thing with saving it and loading it as a scenario. I can change which civ I play but not alter what civs or how many are in the game.

I realized this awhile ago but just figured there was something I'd overlooked but I can't see what. Can't remember if this was a feature of Civ3 but I know it was for Civ2 because I had a large collection of maps of varying sizes all of which had carefully created or edited to suit what I wanted. Strange that we can't do that in Civ4--or can someone tell me how?

If you manually edit the WBS file with a text editor, you should be able to change the things that you mentioned.
