SB Audigy + Teamspeak = Civ4 doesn't start

I want to use Teamspeak to talk to my friends while playing Civ4. But when I start Teamspeak and then Civ4, Civ4 stops running almost immediately at "Check XML".

I want to use TS because it works perfectly with every other game and, the main reason, it works at all (Civ4 voice chat doens't work no matter which key combination I press; yes, I did activate it in the Options menu). But that's not what I want to complain about.

The problem reaches further: When I want to use two VoIP apps simultaneously (e.g. Teamspeak and Skype), it doesn't work either. Furthermore, when I want to record in CoolEdit while being in either Teamspeak or Skype, CoolEdit also complains. The diagnosis is simple: The Audigy driver doesn't allow more than one app recording simultaneously. And this is where I think the problem lies.

Now Creative doesn't seem to care much about this. The Audigy driver has never supported it and even the most current one doesn't. The funny thing is: The Soundblaster Live driver did support it! The Creative support forum is some piece of crap, hundreds of people post there daily about some X-Fi problems, but I couldn't manage to find even a single post about this problem. Doesn't anyone care about this issue?! Not even the users themselves?

I know I'm quite wrong at this forum since my Civ4+TS problem is only one of many symptoms. But I don't know anywhere else to go and speak out...

Do you have Windows 2000? I have the same problem with Ventrilo (and I don't have an Audigy soundcard) and it was my understanding that it was Win 2K that caused the conflict. The simplest solution is to somehow prevent Civ from attempting to control the sound input device, (which it does whether "voip" is enabled or not).

I haven't heard from anyone who can tell me how to prevent this, though, and I've looked through the *.cfg file myself already for a setting of this nature.

I'll let you know if I figure anything out, but right now I'm hoping someone else has an answer.

you can use Teamspeak while playing CIV4, the solution to get Teamspeak Running is simple:

load Civ4 and when you get to the main menu screen ALT+TAB out to the desktop load teamspeak join a server with it then go back into the bame it it should work perfectly.

nope
i think its an win2k-issue

when i alt-tab from civ4 and start ts the microphone is disabled.

even if i disable the ingame-voicechat in the gameoptions it doesnt work.
it seemes like the only solution is to get winXP or a second soundcard :(

thats no option for me... for now i'm using my notebook for teamspeak while i'm playing civ4 at my desktop-pc. :crazyeye:

plz fix it with the next patch? ;)
