I haven't done much modding in general, let alone Civilization. However the map editor with the Civ games has allowed me to play with some custom games. In any case, I got this idea when looking at the different world type options when creating a new standard game. The desert world option with poles rich in resources reminded me of the planet Kharak from Homeworld series.
For those of you that are not familiar, Homeworld is a 3D space RTS. Now while a space RTS might be hard to make with Civ IV, I thought maybe a scenario could be made about the time leading up to the first game.
The story goes that the Kushan were exiled to the planet of Kharak and their civilization essentially started from scratch. Only the basic family bonds remained after their exile so various nations grew from these families or kiithid (singular: kiith). Eventually years of struggle and war gave way to a fragile peace with the founding of the Great Daiamid. Eventually the original ship that the Kushan were exiled on was discovered and all available resources were poured into the building of the Mothership with the intent to find their original homeworld.
My idea so far: You start as one of the Kiith from Homeworld. The map is a desert map with limited resources at the poles. Im not sure about the goals yet, but I was thinking either the founding of the Great Daiamid (U.N.) and the building of the spaceship, or a choice between the two. Then of course there were the religious fanatics (who werent that far off the mark) that thought the construction of the Mothership would bring about the destruction of their world. So conquest victory would count as preventing the completion of the Mothership.
Civilization IV Homeworld Prequel Scenario:
Map Type:
Mostly Desert Around equator with fertile land and resources at the poles
Possibly tweak the terrain to match the description form the HW storyline
Civilizations/Empires:
Various Kiith from Homeworld:
Soban
Sjet
Naabal
Manaan
Somtaw
Victory Condition:
Founding of the Great Daiamid (U.N.)
(And/Or?)
Building the Mothership (Spaceship, possibly with help from other Kiith)
Possibly preventing the building of the Mothership (Conquest)
Thats it so far, but I wanted to hear what you guys think, including those who are familiar with the Homeworld series. Im not sure what tweaks can be done, but with XML and Python scripting available, it seems like theres a lot of options. IT could start out simply as a pre-made map with limited victory conditions, but it can expand from that. Thanks.
