A certain new science and technology sub-forum is certainly starting to look crappy already, mainly because a certain user has a certain obnoxious predilection with trying to be the "guy who starts all the probably big threads there".

Just an FYI. :science:

agreed.
Deductive studies suggest that this subforum has no more "scientific value" than the museum of creationism.
However, an surge of relevant news articles and interesting debates about them would prove more valuable then this:

What concerns me is I'm not sure if the moderators can do anything about it. That certain user is carefully staying within the bounds of the subforum, so its not as if he could be dinged for spam, and the mods can't exactly dole out infractions simply for being a crappy poster.

It seems like the onus is on the common user to un-crappify the sci/tech subforum. :(

Some of those are valuable threads. 'What Cell Phone do you have' for instance. It's a Science and Technology forum.

However, you are right that taking an OT topic and putting 'The Scientific' in front of it doesn't make for a riveting scientific thread topic.

Let them die quietly. I agree that it looks awful, but it'll go away in time.

I think that what the subforum needs is for a (semi) official Evolution vs. Creationism thread, and for a certain poster rather than a certain other poster to be the one to start it, and for any others, if they are saying the same thing (and not exploring a different aspect of the debate) to be merged into it.

A certain new science and technology sub-forum is certainly starting to look crappy already...

...says a poster who proclaims loving perfection (I'm assuming you mean the forum member - not the general goal of life)...
:p

If it truly is a science forum, why would it need such a thread?

How about a mathematics vs. magic thread? Astrology vs. astronomy?

Do you want the forum to truly be for those interested in legitimate scientific discussions or non-scientific drivel.

Then again, the supposed "history" forum is largely filled w/ alt-history (bad) fiction... so....

History had started off from a worse start. I don't see any long-term problems from this.

The classic Evo vs Religion threads can stay in OT, thank you very much.

They aren't evolution vs. religion, for crying out loud.

And there is an awful lot of science in those threads. if there were a lot of people who took astrology seriously here, I think this would be the place to have an astronomy vs. astrology thread.

Then post something worthy of being 'history'. At the end of the day, it's up to you guys to make forums work. :p

Much as I want to shut down on those alt history threads, but I am tired of arguing with thread starters, so I will just leave it to your own devices. :p Not as if history is seeing its fair share of traffic (too many oldtimers have left...).

No? I thought creationism has a lot to do with religious faith?

It's true that you won't find a Creationist who is not religious, but that doesn't mean that every religious person is a Creationist. I mean, look at Perf's threads; Erik Mesoy and I are a couple of the biggest posters there, and we come down squarely for evolution.

Then start some threads of your own?

Moderator Action:
This actually looks like poster-specific whinging to me....
