Apologies in advance if this has been mentioned somewhere else but I've had a search and found nothing. Anyway here goes.

When playing on a huge map with about 4-6 civs about what year is average for reaching industrial. The reason I'm asking is that I never seem to be able to get to the end of this age by 2050 and I though if I could get an idea of what year I should be starting it should help me.

Many thanks from a major newbie.

Dont worry! In my first game i didnt reach the industial era for ages, then with my 2nd, 3rd games etc I got there earlier and earlier until i got it before the C11th.

If you still think you're not getting techs fast enough, you can change it in the editor.

with more civs, and a higher level of play, tech will come faster, as there will be more tech trading and the AI will research faster.

In my current game, which is Monarch, huge map, 16 civs, 80% water, archipelago, everything else random, I just reached industrial at 1600 AD. Unfortunately I am one of the worst civs but I am not too far behind in technology, 2 or 3 techs most of the time. Hope this helps!!

Be warned though...once you start getting a lot of civs the pause in between becomes very large, in my 16 civ game it is at least 5 minutes now (on my PII 400mhz, 128 RAM) and that is only in 1600 AD!!
