Science in deity

hello, i'm playing civ3 for quite a long time, but now as i move to play on deity setting, i find it extremly hard to keep up the pace of the tech's with the AI.
ive read many threads here that talk about giving your map for tech's, or ROP, but the AI doesnt seem to want that so much even if i have a larger territory than he has, or i have explored more.
would approciate if i could get some usefull tips concerning to this.

You shouldn't even try to research beyond the minimum on Diety until later in the game and then only when you have had the opportunity to put the necessary improvements in place.

You should concentrate on getting contacts and use them to set yourself up as a broker. Never trade on the AI's turn.
