Since the last patch effectively reduced the available amenities, I have struggled to sustain a happy population of much more than 400. ( typically 16 cities of 25, or 12 of 35 ). This, in turn, will have reduced the highest possible score.

So, despite my best efforts on a standard map, I have failed to achieve a score of 2000.

Could anyone tell me how to achieve a score of 2000, or more.
Is there a list of " highest scores

Cheers Jon

I'd say to keep researching Future Tech and the Globalization/Social Media non-stop. Create a lot of Campi and Theatre Districts to research them quickly.

Also, for the amenities problem, you can distribute the population in more cities, and you're able to build more Entertainment Complexes. For example, create 40 cities with 10 population (which supports 4 districts, probably Campus, Commercial Hub and Theatre District). Of course, you need a larger map, but that also increases the chance of more amenities and more amenity-giving City-States (Zanzibar, Buenos Aires and, if you have the DLCs, Muscat). Rome also has the Bath, which gives +1 amenities, and you can always build the Colosseum where your cities are clustered. There's also the amenity cards.

I won a game with a score of over 2500, but had to set it up specifically to achieve it.

"Empire" is the biggest part of the score and it seems to emphasize the number of cities and/or hexes you control. So I played on a huge map and disabled the cultural or religious victories so I wouldn't accidentally achieve those while on my way to dominating the world.

I went really wide rather than the "taller" cities you tried. Ended up with 77 cities, having defeated all the other civs except China, who was reduced to just their capital city. No problems with amenities. Took a long time to play out.

I suspect it would be very difficult to get that high a score on the standard map size.

WTH, 77 cities?? Must've been a pain to assign production to 15+ cities every turn. I've put another definition of "masochism" in my dictionary now.

Jokes aside, did you keep them with very low population? How were amenities?

The main thing the highest scores in Civ VI involve is conquering most of the world and then milking things out.

It was also a factor in previous civ iterations, but all previous versions had an "early victory bonus" and Civ IV and before also had a difficulty level modifier that made it much easier to reach Augustus score.

Heh-heh, ShinigamiKenji, your joke has a lot of truth behind it. "Tedious" is the way I'd put it. :)

Behold the mini-map of the Roman Empire and shudder:

Total population was 845 so each city had an average of approx 11 pop. Naturally some of the newer ones I planted in tundra etc were not as populated while some of the primary ones like Rome above were significantly higher.

Amenities were no problem. Lots of cities = lots of Entertainment Districts and Roman Baths. City status was pretty much a 50/50 split between "Happy" and "Ecstatic".

Wow, that's impressive. I wish I had the patience to do that one day. Was this pre- or post-patch?

I think post-patch the only civs that can pull it off are Rome, with 2 districts that give amenities, and Brazil, with their amenity-giving project.

Aztecs should work as well? Haven't played them yet.

Unfortunately with no Hall of Fame I have no incentive to ever do this. You listening Devs?

If they ever put in Hall of Fame then I will do this. 7th highest on the score list was the highest I got (sorry, can't remember the name).

Klinn - Many thanks for your reply. The screenshot is awesome.
I am going to give it a go. I think it will be a long haul, perhaps even masochistic, as ShinigamiKenji suggests.
So, could you look as the set up I am thinking of trying :

Prince level
My leader will be Trajan
Large Map
999 turns
All other victory conditions turned off
No barbarians
Opponents - I am thinking just one - say Victoria.
Resources - Abundant
Sea Level - Low
Climate and others - Standard.

In play - initially - found at least 20 cities. Rush to Entertainment Districts.
Later - develop 4-6 cities to maximise Great People.

Please let me know if there are any Errors / Omissions.

In previous iterations of Civ. the highest scores could only be achieved by fast victories.
Civ.VI does not reward fast victories nor ( as Disgustipated says ) provide a Hall of Fame.
So, it easy to understand why there is little discussion of score achievements.

Thanks to everyone who posted. Jon

ShinigamiKenji, that game finally finished up on Dec 24th (yeah, Christmas Eve) and I believe the winter patch was pushed out on the 21st, right? Can't recall for sure if I started the game pre-patch, in case that makes a difference, but given how long it took to play I would guess that I did.

Obligatory screen shot of victory screen + overlay of victory condition details. I'll try to spoiler it since it's a larger image:

Not sure what goes into the Religion part of the score. Even though I had turned off Religious Victory, for an extra dose of masochism I trotted inquisitors and apostles all over the place to convert every city to the glorious spirit of Klinnism.

The game ticked over the 2500 score mark in the year 1969, 390 turns at the standard speed. I suppose I could have let it run longer to bump it up even more, but come on, it was Christmas Eve!

Jon, my game was set up a little differently from what you suggested. Most importantly, I used the Huge map size so I could pack in more cities/territory. I left the Domination and Science victory conditions in place to provide an easy way to finish off the game once I hit the target score.

I started with the normal number of AI civs for a huge map so they would build cities for me to take. For most of the game I had two armies gobbling up the AI territory, sometimes splitting a force to take two weaker cities. As usual, I hit more difficulties with barbs and city-states that other civs became the Suzerain of than the other civs themselves.

I didn't bother to rush to Entertainment districts, but that can't hurt. I did concentrate more on Commercial districts, not only for the gold to keep things running, but also for the Great Merchant points so that I could snatch up all the Great Merchants that provide amenities (toys, jeans, cosmetics).

Oh yes, with so much war mongering, I made sure to take that civics card which reduces war weariness by 25%. Even so, early on I had to pause a couple of times to let things cool off. I guess if you go your route and build all of your cities instead, you won't have to worry about that.

Good luck with your game! Lay in a large supply of your favorite beverage. :)

Klinn - Your advice is much appreciated..

I will use a huge pangea map as you suggest.
The turns will be cut to 600, a better chance of me ( not the game ) still being alive at the end.
I won't give myself an easy way out - as you suggested - I might be tempted to take it !
Commercial Districts will have a high priority for the reasons you have given.
I would rather try and build myself to a high score rather than conquer my way there, so, my first attempt will be with one opponent.
My aim is 60 cities with an average of 15 pop. My target score is 2000.

I will report back - hopefully later this month.

Many thanks for your help - Jon

I just got my first #1 Caesar ranking today, after ranking in my first with half a dozen games around 11th. Final score was around 2300. Details:

Prince, huge map, Russia, near domination, finished around 1930 so around 350 turns.

I played the game to get the trans-siberian railroad, huge map, and Peter victory achievements - also added the airlift level 3 slinger in there:) I was going for domination victory but once the railroad achievement fired I got tired of the lengthy turns and finished the space race to win. Conquered all but Spain and England. Think the largest city was St. Petersberg with 26 pop., but I kept nearly all cities and had several over 20.

Playing on that huge map is an exercise in patience. When I hit the "end turn" button I go do laundry or something while the game crunches through all the A.I. moves:p
