A while ago I received a sad message:

Hello

This is not Michel here but his son.

My father died yesterday afternoon from brain cancer.

I know he enjoyed playing with you, and as I don't know how you all correspond on the Apolyton and CivFanatics sites, I thought you could relay the news there to those he knew and who care.

Thanks

Philippe Baise

You can talk to la fayette here or any other place and way you prefer.

This is very sad. La Fayette was one of my favorite players in PBEMS and GOTMs. Probably more than anyone, he encouraged me as a conquest newbie at Apolyton. He was always fun to have around, talented at the game and with clever phrases (even in a second language). He will really be missed.

I didn't know him, but it's very sad news that this happened :(.

Didn't really wanna hear that.Sad news indeed

RIP La Fayette

I only knew him through this forum. He will be sadly missed. Thank you Slow Thinker for the news, even though sad.

He inspired my awe a while back when he pointed out that he was 64 years old. I would not have guessed we had anyone at that age as an avid Civ player; a game whose first version came about when he was in his 40s. He was very young at heart.

I have posted in the 'poly thread, and want to register my sadness and regret at his death here too. :(
A massive column of the Civ II community at both the major sites, La Fayette was a true genius of the game, the like of which I can only hope we might see again. Thank you for all of your help to we n00bs (now experts, with your help ;)) and to everyone else who may have found themselves needing the advice of a sage.

Qu'il repose en paix. :thanx:

As with Ivor, may he find himself in a 4-special location in Civ 2 heaven, and he can rest assured that he will have lucrative trade routes with CFC and 'poly for as long as we all may live. :goodjob:

:(

Most of us never really knew him except what we saw on the forums, but what we saw was always such a delight. Helpful, courteous, friendly, witty. The fact that he was an outstanding, brilliant player almost pales in comparison to everything else we saw of him.

I think we can safely assume that he will reach his new and improved destination faster than anyone else, and he'll be able to do it without bribes, black-clicking, or helper applications. He'll know the way on his own.

RIP

Sorry to hear this terrible news. :( la fayette was a very helpful and valuable member.

My sincere condolence to la fayette's family for the loss.

RIP la fayette. You will be missed.

I didn't know you either.
Rest In Peace.
:salute:

Oh man :(

Rest In Peace, lafayette. We'll all miss you. My condolences to the family.

I have been asked to pass a condolence to la fayette's family:

Of course I informed Philippe that I established this thread so it is likely Philippe /la fayette's family will read it.

In case you had a closer relation with la fayette and would like to contact Philippe directly:
he sent me his announcement from La Fayette's e-mail. Probably he uses this e-mail address to contact some of La Fayette's friends. So if you want to contact him directly and especially if you need an answer you can simply try to write an e-mail to La Fayette.

La Fayette was one of a few of us who crossed noticably in multiple areas -- I knew him as a fellow GOTM player as well as consistent player with succession games. I understand that he was seriously into the scenarios (some day I'll catch up with those), and am better off by far the communication that he shared.

Peace.

I'm only a newbie here, and in fact I haven't been around in a while. But Lafayette was one of those who responded and graciously gave advice when I had questions. Some of his nuggets of wisdom are preserved in what I have gleaned from my time here.

Slainte

La Fayette was a regular forum writer and a constant tester of hyothesis in civ II scenarios.
He was the leader of those who tried to play in french...;)
There is a hole in the civ community

A late note of condolence as I haven't visited here for quite some time.

I remember the remarkable results LF got in the GOTMs and his major contributions here and at ACS.

He will be sorely missed.
