I saw the seed addition in C3C, and I think -
If a player abuses it, does it show that he started with a specific seed or a random map in the SAV file?
Can this be detected?
If not, I think we're heading into deep c..

Please reply, AESON!
And yes, if it can be detected, I'm still in  with the HoF.

I don't know if it can be detected but here is the rule for using a seed.

World Settings:

Any default world settings are allowed. You may choose the map's Size, Barbarian, Landform, Water Level, Climate, Temperature, and Age settings. You may enter a seed number for the map only if you have not used that seed before in the game or the editor for a map with similar settings (Size, Landform, Water Level).

I think you should not be able to enter a seed number..
I hate the rules being so uncheckable.
I like honesty, and I am.
But I don't want the HoF murdered.. !

Disallowing a player to enter a valid seed number will not keep people from entering invalid seed numbers. So I see no point to disallowing valid seed numbers to be entered.

I'll just refer you back to our prior conversation on the HOF rules. Some things just aren't worth worrying about, because worrying about them can't accomplish anything.

I think there is a lot of integrity involved in playing HoF games. I would think there are lots of ways to cheat and have it go unnoticed. Most of the players here start many games before settling on finishing one for a HoF submission. I think that is the beauty of this, if you don't like that world just start a new one.

I have all kinds of 4000 BC saves that look promising but wont even build the first city until I'm prepared to play out to 1000 BC then save to compare with many other 1000 BC saved games to determine which one to play.

I get lots of very valuable practice with this method and it works for all world sizes and difficulties. Whenever I'm prepared to start my next huge world try (post 1.16 patch) I'll pick my starting conditions and run Moonsinger and Dianthus's MapFinder utility to generate dozens of good starting positions then start the least promising ones first to practrice on. When I think I know how I want to start, I will play the best candidate worlds out to 1000 BC to see which one has the most promise.

The point here is that if a game randomly generates a seed at start or set directly by user has a big difference in the SIMPLE-user ability to find a nice map and just repeat the seed number.

I agreed with you then about not being too perfectionist in checking the SAV file, since it can't tell the whole story, and we can't prevent all misbehaves, but I don't think the checking should therefor be neglected -

I think the solution is to refine the SAV file checking for such (easy checking) options, and when you do find an illeagal SAV file that tries to infiltrate, tou can actually ban that user (also email..) from this site.
IMHO, this seems like the best balancing solution.

Sorry, I just love my HoF..

Svar, I'm aware of the integrity issue, that's why I suggest to check, but not all way through.
BUT - if a user is caught cheating, he is banned.

This includes integrity and a deterent.

All I'm saying is that it should include not doing a game with determined seed as a rule.
U can agree or u ain't , but I ain't gonna dis ur position man.
Catch me drifting (away)?

No, I don't catch your drift.

If you generate a map randomly, all that does is generate a random seed to generate the map from. The seed is saved in the save file. It's no different if you input a seed yourself, just that the seed isn't random now. Both cases could use the seed 2382871 for instance, and there is no way to tell if that number was generated randomly or not AFAIK.

If there's no way of telling if it was randomly generated, then.. ok.

No point for me crying over long dead milk drunk by a cut that was drove over by a herd of mad JAGs on their way to the bong!

So u did get my flift!
That's the tools we have, and we'll have to dig through the metal to reach our resting place.

Case closed, 007's still alive Zd's dead, and I'm full awake when I should be sleeping and NOT slipping out of context.

Thnx, Aeson, I feel I am an ass, but I hate that it could be done.
Also, did I mention I got my own problems?
I have (by order of importance):
1. General Anxiety Disorder. (taking seroxat)
2. Narcotic addiction (-Mari, Juan -a!)
3. Nicotin addiction (the brand of cigs is time)
4. Caffeine addiction - now on medium.

Also I sleep a lot and play a lot, but u see me there, because you r my imagionary friends here in the forum..

Well, one thing I know for sure is that all maps generated with the MapFinder utility are 100% random.;)

Yeah, but then there's the question if there's a way to check if a map has been generated with your (great) mapfinder utility? :)
