Hi all! I'm new to this forum, and have just started going on Civ 4 again after a long break from it. On my game I'm the Indians and am on chieftain level (I know...an easy difficulty).
I'm at about 1850 and have just gained access to start building the Apollo programme. My best city for production is Delhi has a population of 18 and produces 33 hammers/turn.
However it says that the Apollo Programme will still take about 50 turns to build!! Is this common with this wonder or is Delhi still not producing enough hammers?
Any advice/hints on what to do?

50 turns is too much for anything!
do you have a forge, a factory, power in there?

I haven't got all these, as I'm conscious of having an unhealthy city. Should I just forget about that and build all improvements that increase production?

in my opinion, you need to set other cities on production by :
- improving terrain (mines obviously, lumbermills, watermills, workshops if necessary + the farms needed for those tiles to be worked)
- building the production buildings+health buildings if necessary (ie if you can't sustain the necessary population to work the hammer tiles)

You need 6 forges in 6 cities to be able to build the ironworks.
You'll need the ironworks!

Are you aware that after the apollo program, there are loads of very expensive things to build? You need many production cities.
At least 3, IMHO.
And currently you have 0.

Maybe post a screen shot of your city detail screen so we can get a better idea of what's going on. Just hit the "PritnScrn" key while on the detail view of Delhi and then paste the image (Ctrl-V) into Paint. Save as a JPEG file. Then attach it to this thread using the "Go Advanced" reply options.

You could also post your savegame file the same way so we can get a full picture of the situation.

When going for a spaceship victory you should research assembly line and railroad first before researching rocketry. Get factories/coal plants built in your best production cities. Get railroads on all your mines and lumbermills. Then research rocketry and start apollo program while researching towards industrialism. Industrialism gives you access to aluminum which will double production of the apollo program and most other parts. If you don't have any then either trade for it or build some miltary and go capture a source really quickly. edit: After this your next goal should be computers for laboratories (bonus to production of space parts and of course science boost), then satellites (use your middle-of-the-road production cities to build the casings/thrusters and leave your top cities for the expensive parts), then plastics, then fusion, then robotics, then ecology. Ideally, you want to start a golden age with the great engineer from fusion so you should save a great person (or two if you've already done a GA) to be able to do so.
