We learned today that a major update for Civ6 Gathering Storm is due to be released in September.

Does the community want a game released on the 15th or shall we wait for the update to be released? I have no idea how compatible the save will be. The patch will change game play. You may have only 5-days to play before the patch?

This poll will be open for 7-days.

Delaying just 5 days seems reasonable to me.

Considering the Mausoleum changes... why is that DLC missing in every GotM?
Seems like that and Apadana are the only wonders that require a DLC (Persia
and Macedon + Scenario Pack) but I kinda really miss them in every single GotM :(

Well actually Jebel Barkal is also missing every time (Nubia DLC)...

Isn't it time to start including these DLCs in the GotMs for the full Civ experience?

PS: Actually GotM 70 seems to have the DLCs enabled... but that would be the first one I guess? And nobody
even complained yet in the announcement thread that he can't participate due to that.... so it seems fine :smug:

Perhaps, there are still folks without the dlc. And, to be fair, the announcement thread has only been up for a couple of days.

Waiting seems fine.

Every GOTM I think the AI has scooped the Apadana incredibly early when it is not in the queue and then I remember it is not in the base game. I would be fine with adding DLC to GOTM but if anyone would be excluded I would rather more people play and post than have a few extra wonders.

... wait a second. How do you know the update is coming on the 20th?

I hope it is not because of the youtube preview image:

... because that actually just says September 2019 :D :

Okay, I've been fooled! Is it April?

I got the date from the YouTube screenshot, so I guess the 20th is not The Date?

Tricky. So maybe run game as usual on 15:th then?
From my perspective, if a game is posted for the 15th and the patch comes out within 2 to 3 days, or even a week? Pretty crappy situation really!

Ok, so maybe start a new game earlier then, maybe as soon as possible to give time to finish (like today or tomorrow)? Or wait until patch hits and start 2 games close to each other if the patch is postponed to the end of the month?

That leaves no time to play test the saves and make sure they are more and better than just random starts. There is more to putting these together than creating a game, usually spend 4 to 6 days putting one together.

Ah sorry, I wasn't aware you need a few days to play test, my bad. Then I see a few options here:
1) Start playtesting now and set up a game in 4+ days time to give players more time to finish before the patch. I understand if this is not an alternative though because you might not have time/other issues to do.
2) Do very light playtesting (like do a few starts and play 20 turns or so) and start the game sooner. I understand if this is not an alternative as well because of the same reasons.
3) Start the game as normal on the 15:th and hope that the patch won't screw things up or is late.
4) Start the game after the patch hits. But I guess you might need some playtesting here as well so maybe better to skip one of the GOTMs then to catch up?

I personally would prefer 2) above, and if I could put in a wish, I'd love to see a science game with Arabia. I always had a hard time understanding how to balance the religion and science concept with them.

Sorry I just love how fitting his pose actually is as an response to this :D

Not certain how to proceed now. Starting earlier sounds good but starting regularly on the 15th might be okay too
since I believe patches so far never broke previously started games totally. You just suddenly had new rules.
So probably better to avoid a naval focused game for this GotM to minimize the differences
between people that started playing pre-patch and those that played it post-patch?

I typically have to do about 30 rerolls to get a map that works for what I want for that game. The Mali game was close to 100, granted some of them were reroll, no desert, mash the reroll button again. However a lot were played thru the first 50 turns. Sadly the worldbuilder cant seem to let me place the starting locations, otherwise I would use that

Only if you allow the update to happen. You pretty much will have to play offline in order to avoid the update.
