Can someone give me some pointers about setting up a LAN to play ptw, please?
I'm going to visit my family over christmas and want to play my brother, who has civ3 and ptw. i have a pc with an ethernet port and he has a laptop with the same. My pc has the misfortune to run on windows millenium while his laptop has xp. do we need anything else (except the cable)??

windows xp and windows me have no problem communicating with eachother, so it should be no problem to set up the LAN.
Make sure you have the right UTP cable, a normal UTP cable won't do the job without a HUB... however, if you use a crosslink (or crossover) UTP cable you can directly connect the two pc's.

Make sure you have the client for microsoft networks installed on both computers and of course the tcp/ip protocol. If ok there's a network setup wizard in windows that should set up the network automatically.

I have a Linksys Router, and have the computers hooked up to it. I have a Windows Me and Windows XP Home computer. Will the network setup wizards be fairly easy to follow, and which one (or does it matter) do I need to add to it first?
