What do you all think about these screenshot of settlement plans I posted in the screenshot thread?

Just a suggestion, but next time can you turn on the resource bubbles? Sorry, but I use Blue Marble terrain, so I have trouble figuring out what and where the resources are.

I'd prefer that City #1 would have both golds in its radius, as that would make a great science/commerce city. I guess the question is, which is more important and how exactly are we specializing this city?

Please, is our capital (city 0) the one bellow,to the left, just half radius
visible?

I do not like screenshots and have to see it by save.

Best regards,

I like this general plan, it's dissapointing not to get both gold in the city 1 radius, however it looks like the squares to the east of our vision could be desert, and those certainly won't help.

City 2 could be moved 1 NW without interfering with city 5, and that way it won't interfere with our capital, otherwise i'd say it looks great.

I'm worried about the two gold though. Although your city settlement plan is nice and dandy, the earlier you get gold mined and worked, the more effective it is. I'd like to see city 1 moved 1S as it would grow rather quickly and still incorporate the gold mines early. City 3 and City 2 look good. I doubt well be able to get 4 5 and 6 exactly where we want them, as by the time we get out the settlers, those lands might already be under influence. We shall see though.

Here's another 1st draft at a comprehensive plan. It will be interesting to see if we came up with any spots in common.

Spoiler screen1 :

Here is a closeup of the city placements to the E and NE. The name of "Silky Seafood" is pure speculation, there's gotta be seafood somewhere in all that coast, right?
Spoiler screen2 :

We don't have a single city in common Dave :p
I don't really like your Oxbow gold, I'd move it more to the west, also as a buffer against France/Germany. The other cities look good.

I'd agree. I like dutchfires city #2 site over Dave's oxbow gold site. Dutchfire's #2 can also be speciailized as a science/commerce city, having two of them would really be nice.

IMO use Dave's Double Gold and dutchfire's City #2. Yes, we'll lose some workable tiles, but I'd prefer to have better city sites than try and gain every tile.

IMO, the double gold city stays better on the plains river: a great commerce

city,with enough hammers and food.

And the north city on the hills between gold and cows: a great powerhouse

with enough food and reasonable commerce.

And both close, not overlaping, capital for easier defence.

Best regards,

We should go for the double gold area insted of settling far into the distance. I've made a few mistakes in a few of my games (Both in Civ1 SNES and Civ4 (Though the Civ1, it just happens out of my control when I pop a goodie hut)) on over extending and settling far away from my starting central area. For now, we should simply work around our area insted of ploping a settler far a way from military support and workers.

I'm also not in favour of settling too far out. Dave's doublegold city comesa close to divine intervention, I really like to find our second city there. Dutchfire's city #1 will be a good complementation of our first expansion then.

I'd do city 2 first, as it seems that the others are to our west.

I would as in if this were my own private game, then I'd do that. So what I prefer. I won't do anything as I'm not the DP for any of the next sessions.

BTW I think after next play-session, we should get a poll about this.

Both double gold and city 2 are excellent cities.

I would go to city 2 first, by the reason told (looks other civs to west) and
because shall be a powerhouse.

But it stays better 1NW from the marked place. Loses 2 health, but we are
expansive. It's grass/hills,so better early production and defence. Marked place
has 3 overlaps and this has none. Gold, cows, and grass/hills inside 8 tiles radius,
and we are not creative. With 4 grass/hills,plains/hills/gold,cows and enough
food to support it. shall be a great military house, with enough food and commerce to pay for its expenses.

So, this place must be the one to be settled first,IMHO.

Best regards,

To those who attached screenshots to this thread, a request: Could you edit your posts so that the screenshots do not appear automatically? It's taking too long to get this thread open when it must download these graphics. Thanks.
