Settlement Plan

A poll sounds good, which ones to include? The 2nd gold site vs the copper site? Let's make sure we don't leave off any other sites that have support from someone. I'd also like to suggest we poll the general location (gold vs copper) and not specific tiles. The specific tile is something we can refine later if necessary.
I suggest we make a poll with these options:
  • 2nd gold site
  • copper site
  • Other (please specify in a post)
  • Abstain

Fellow Yasutanians, I would like to submit a city site called Coppertown for your consideration.
Does Genghis Khan really need early access to copper? :mischief:

If I may suggest an alternative for your next city site ...

Also, how come ya'll haven't switched to slavery?

Just a heads up, we have a settler ready and waiting to be sent to a settlement location in the next Turnchat :).

Also, how come ya'll haven't switched to slavery?

I guess no one's made a thread to really discuss it, and it's never been polled...

I'll go ahead and make a thread on it... I'm kinda neutral on the subject though.

And ya know... in the future you could produce your own discussion thread when something comes up ;) just try not to produce duplicate threads.

EDIT: Here's the thread: Civic Discussion: Slavery

After the TC
I think we should just settle on spot now to deny France this site.

I agree with dutch fire, our settler is on the cow gold site now, and if we don't settle it the French may well do so, continuing to push for the copper town location will be dangerous because France will have the possibility of cutting us off.

(Lucky we are, indeed).

As Dutchfire and Grant2004 say, obviously.

IMHO, it was also clear before.

But there was a poll with a majority; I would like to ear what partners who are

said majority have to say.

Best regards,

Is the current tile the desired settlement location, or is there a move we should make which will allow settling on this turn? Primarily I'm asking if a move towards the river is needed.

A poll is required to override the previous poll. I would like to be able to say that a drastic change in current conditions vs. when the poll was opened should be justification to nullify the previous poll, but that gets into a bothersome legal area of defining "drastic". It's easier to just placate the DG legal community with a new poll.

Since our illustrious Chieftain (and next-up DP) is in the throes of interior decorating, we probably have enough time to leave a few hours for any new suggestions for city sites. However unlikely such suggestions may be. :D

Here are some questions I don't know the answer to:

- How will Napoleon react if we settle where we are? I don't know the options the AI has in situations like this, but if I were him, I'd be tempted to attack that city with the 2 axes already there. If he managed to plant his city on "our" hill with 1 or 2 axes to defend, we'd have a hard time dislodging him before he could reinforce. So, are we ready to push him into war or would a site away from him (NE from present site, e.g.) be safer?

- In case Napoleon does get aggressive, should we be thinking about Iron sooner rather than later? Iron is 14 away and archery + HBR is 22 away. Should we gamble on iron being nearby to speed the arrival of quality units? Given how far copper was, perhaps iron will be closer.

I don't believe that AI are offended if you place a city where they intend to, and we have no evidence that he is aiming for the cow gold area, I believe he's heading further south to get the clams.

I also think it's unlikely that he will attack, in past games I've found that AI try to expand peacefully first, and when there isn't accessible open land, then they turn to war for expansion. There is a lot of open land that Napoleon can access, he has better options than fighting us.

Seems like he's going the long way around if that's his goal, doesn't it? Is there a method to his madness that I'm overlooking?

Well, our "AI" advisor is currently showing a blue circle SW of Napoleon's current position and one N of our current position. Is it reasonable to assume Napoleon also considers these 2 to be prime spots? If he is aiming at the SW, why the route he is taking? Did he go for the copper and find it occupied (barbarians, maybe)? Or is he aiming at the N site? Maybe letting him have that one would be advantageous as we could isolate it fairly easily when war comes. Having played the challenge version many times, I expect to see us mixing it up with Napoleon before too long.

Do the citizens want a 4th city in the close future? I'm considering building another settler in NoneOfTheAbove.

I've never had the AI become violent against me when I settled before he could. To be honest I don't see all the fuzz. We are at our desired location and it is our turn to move units. Get on with it and settle.

About a 4th city: yes, it's a good idea but we really need to find out where Napoleon does settle after we settle for Cow + Gold. If he settles at our copper town location we have to re-evaluate the map.

A 4th city is desirable, but...
FH is a commercial city, 3rd in its beginning, so NotA is the only one that can
build some defense.
I would say build 2 chariots first.
Best regards,

I'd say the 4th city should come soon we want to make sure to claim the usable land south of the jungles as quickly as we can, land=power.

Because the French ended up settling by the clams the proposed coppertown site might still be open, maybe charriot 2 should head over there to check it out, other than that, maybe we should begin considering cities on the eastern shore, or near the big lakes

There's no rush for getting cities there as there is no major competition for these sites. I propose that we send the new settler from NotA to the copper when it's ready.
