SGFN-04: Ragnar for Secretary-General!

i am around as a last resort

I think that I'll give Tad the rest of today and then Rodent can take it. Maybe Tad is busy and just didn't get a chance to respond. If he is able to play this weekend, even better, we'll just make a swap. ThinkTank, enjoy your vacation, I'm sure we won't be finished until you are back, but hopefully we will be close.

Starting now

*bumps*

Whos playing this time?

Tad is up, Thinktank is away, and you just played. If Tad needs a skip, I'll take it this weekend. Haven't heard boo from Pol or Sercer in ages, so right now it's just us 4.

I will play this on sat. if im up :)

I will play this on sat. if im up :)

Hope you guys can finish this one out. The pace has really slowed in the game. I'd step back in, but my R/L is still crazy. No way I'd be much help. Bring it home, gents. I've got my "Ragnar for Secretary" campaign sign all ready!

Yes Tad, you are up. Anax, I think we may be near, just got to time everything out right. We need a pre-build timed to beat Sumeria to the UN and then we manipulate the election, and we win!

Excuse me, someone needs a skip.

Heck, this is happening in all SGs i am part of, moving very slowly indeed

I will probably take this tomorrow, since Tad is again on the MIA list.

I have played the next turn-set, and all is well. It was interesting rather than boring, as we are at war with Spain. The next player should be able to finish them off, as they have 6 cities left, and 2 should be taken next turn. I traded for Combustion, and Flight is available, but ridiculously over-priced, I think we should wait to get it. I think we are very close to winning this, we just need Flight, Mass Production, Motorized Transportation, and Fission. Here is my turn-log:
Spoiler :

Turn-set 6

Pre-flight: CivAssist 2, Word up and running. Load the save. Do quite a bit of Micro-Managing to get our tax farms tuned up, raising income by ~20 gpt.

Non-Combat:
Native Workers 64
Slaves 49
Military:
Horsemen 3
Knights 6
Cavalry 49
Infantry 10
Artillery 33
Armies 2, 3 Knights, 1 empty
Berserkers 13
MDI’s 6
Ancient Cavalry 6
Galleons 6

Hit Enter=>

IBT: Spanish units move into our territory like a sneak attack. I don’t really want a war at this point, but the suicidal idiots seem to want one.

1465 AD:Move some troops to help defend or prepare for counter-attacks. I decide to let them get the first shot in for war happiness reasons. Should this become a war, I will make it short, brutal and efficient.

IBT: Spanish warn us about a stray galleon, then they DoW. Two MDI’s suicide on an Infantry on the island to the south and that is their mighty blow. WLTK celebrated in many cities.

1470 AD: Gijon taken, no losses. Attack Darhan with eMDI, we get a leader! Darhan taken, lost 1 eKnight. Kadesh, Alaca Huyuk and Hubishna taken with no losses. By the way, we have 10,000 gold on the nose.:D I give Korea a free luxury to begin buttering them up, attitude moves from furious to annoyed.

IBT: Some cities stop WLTK due to losing Mayan Gems. A horseman loses to a conquistador, don’t forget how sneaky this unit is, it treats all tiles as roaded.

1475 AD: Take Palma, losing 2 Cavalry.

IBT: No losses by Spanish attacks, Maya warn us.

1480 AD: Sumeria and Rome have Combustion, purchase it from Rome for 3910 gold. Take New Birka back, no losses. Valladolid and Cordoba taken, no losses.

IBT: Spanish Frigates are all around, bombarding willy-nilly, no units lost.

1485 AD: Rest our armies prior to advancing on Spain’s core. Send 11 cavalry guarded by Knight army toward Murcia.

IBT: Much Spanish bombardment, little damage. Darhan deposes, this will cause War Weariness soon.

1490 AD: Lose 5 cavalry with 6 retreats and can’t kill a single rifle at Murcia, what atrocious RnG! Think 4 unit Cavalry armies can do it? Darhan retaken with no losses, no problem there. Kill one annoying frigate, red-line 2 more.

IBT: A cavalry and conquistador landed on south island. Pentagon finishes in Copenhagen.

1495 AD: Murcia and Alicante taken, no losses.

IBT: same old Spanish frigates.

1500 AD: Vigo and Bilbao taken, the Island is now ours. Sumeria has Flight, but want !10,000! For it. (3x its worth), waaay too much right now, wait for Rome to get it too.

Non-Combat:

Armies 3, 1 Knight, 2 Cavalry (4 units each)

MDI’s 5

Strategy/Hand-off notes: Hopefully Rome is researching Mass Production, and in a few turns we buy Flight from Sumeria and trade in an advantageous way for both Techs. That means that when we get both of those, we begin the Pre-build for the United Nations. No Gpt deals with Sumeria! We need a good reputation and good attitudes to win the vote, and there must be no broken deals. I think we might gift another lux or 2 to Korea, though theres a risk of deal breaking, so maybe just make it tech, cash(no gpt), world maps, etc. If we have 20 turns left before getting the UN, it would be ok. When we get Motorized Transportation, we gift Korea into the Modern Age, see if they get Fission. If not, their freebie will be excellent trade bait to get Fission. Things are going to get quite interesting when that happens, so whoever is playing needs to save and share the situation immediately so the team can help figure out the endgame. Last but not least, we need to eliminate Spain fast, before they form any alliances or we get war weariness or we do something that could harm our reputation or our friends attitudes. Also, a fast knockout will eliminate flip-risks. Two last things...watch the Maya and do NOT raze any cities!

The save:

lurker's comment: At least one lurker is still following along. love this game.

and thanks for the pics... my latest addiction is pics

Nice going, folks. Are there only two of you left? If you need me to step in a take a set, let me know. I don't want to step on anyone's toes at the last minute, so if you don't need the help, that's fine. But there's no sense in you waiting ten days between turns, either, now that I have some of my life back.

Just let me know if you want me to play. Otherwise, I can catch the next game.

Anax, you are always welcome to take a set any time. If you can do one now, that would be great, since ThinkTank is probably still on vacation, or still recovering. (You ever notice that coming back from a vacation means a lot of work? Bills need caught up, grass needs mowed, accumulated work tasks end up back on you, etc. etc.) Getting back to the point, you have never stopped being a member of the team, so please do take it.

1: TheOverseer714=> just played
2: ThinkTank=> on vacation/on deck
3: TadEmpire=> MIA
4: Sercer=> MIA
5: Rodent=> warming up
6: Pol1=> MIA
7: Anaxagoras=> up
8: WanderingNoob=>very long-term skip/inactive

Still working on this, gents. I have dispatched the Spanish, but the turn management has taken me forever. I'm never a fast player anyway, and it took me some time to get the 250 or so units to make a coordinated effort.

The good news is we got a MGL on literally the last attack of the war. I was planning to just make an army out of him, and not necessarily even fill it with anything. Anyone have any objections?

Now that the war is over, I should be able to redistribute units, fortify, and run the remaining turns out. The only thing I'll really need to manage is worker turns, and that should be pretty easy. I expect to post the save and turnlog tonight.

Sounds fine, quality over quantity and all that. Empty army is fine, we could fill it with tanks later. Spain is gone with no pesky alliances against us, excellent! Is there any tech worth buying yet?
