It has been awhile, but I have seen enough interest in a training type game to think about starting another round. I would like to do a game at a moderate level, say Monarch or Emperor, but with a variant to add interest and a challenge for the more experienced players who can be the trainers. The floor is open for suggestions, ideas, and people to join....

I was thinking along the lines of a 20K 1 BC(Built City), where we are allowed to capture and keep enemy cities or keep a popped city.. My short list of civs for that might be the Byzantines, Vikings, Carthage or Spain.

I might join up, and may I suggest a OCC on Monarch since we did a AWM last time?

It would be nice for the lurkers too that those who gets accepted this game have already proved that they have a some kind of positive record to finish their games they play and do their turns on time when playing succession games.

So we dont have to wait up to a week an update.

I've got a kaboodle of experience playing OCC 20k games, and if you need/want another experience copilot, I'd be happy to play this sort of game. I highly recommend the Byzantines, for general ease of getting a good 20k site (assuming that's the win condition wanted, and it makes the most sense -- you can certainly convert to diplomatic or even space if you want to). Carthage can also be fun -- it's theoretically possible to fire up SoZ in 50 turns from the start of the game, which is obviously awesome beyond belief.

I actually think an OCC or limited-city type game is a great teaching tool; because there's comparatively so little to focus on, things like micromanaging become much more doable, and you definitely learn to trade (because you have no choice). 1BC is a great compromise, in that it allows some limited war without going overboard.

I have a feeling that this game will stretch the definition of newbie, but I would like to join, also.

I'm interested, though I think you'd have to stretch the definition of "newbie" pretty far to include me ;)

We need trainers too, to keep things going well.

By the way, you never did add the score of SGFN-08 to you're sig.

lurker's comment: your chief lurker has just arrived... :smug:

:salute: Love these games. I would like to see the 1BC. it intrigues me.

:goodjob:

I feel I learned a lot from the last game, despite missing most of it. I feel I could really benefit from this game, mainly with opening moves.

I never was totally sure what the score was.

In other news, my test game as the Byzantines is showing it as quite a viable concept, even with a mediocre start. :) Right now, I am at 49 culture per turn in 650 AD. Looking good, slow tech pace is helping in some ways. Will keep you all updated.

Ask Lanzelot, he may still have the save right before the win.

Not bad, not bad.

It's very possible to make the HOF table with an OCC (it's slightly depending on getting one timely SGL and/or some other decent luck with cascades though):

Either way, I can assure you that if you've made it that far, you're probably in good shape and needn't continue unless you want to. (What are you researching at this point?)

If you don't mind, I think I'd like to participate. The only SG I've been in was an AoI SG that I had to drop, but unless things go horribly wrong I shouldn't face anything like that *crosses fingers*. I normally play Huge Pangaea warmongery-type games, and I've only started dipping into Monarch recently.

Update on my game, it's now 1220 AD and I'm researching Physics. I am now at 67 cpt. I also have 19 cities, just can't help being a warmonger...

Looks like a nice group has assembled here:goodjob:, I think I'll start running some starts soon.

What map settings are you using? If I might highly recommend 60% Archipelago (the rest won't matter much, though a larger map will be more difficult and possibly funner), that is great for enabling those curraghs to make the rounds.

Also, I have to HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend that players for this game get a working CivAssist 2 or similar program. One very useful feature is the ability to see when workers are for sale -- and, in general, you'll want to buy workers.

It is a 70% archipelago, so I got it close. Seems like a decent setup either size.
