SGOTM 08 - Fifth Element

Seems great, as expected ;) :goodjob:

I'll take a look tomorrow, late here.

I agree on shortening TSs to 6 full turns.

Sounds like a great turnset -- and it looks like I may be up, but I can't possibly play until the weekend. Very busy time of year for me. I might even rather wait two weekends, if possible. Let me know what works please, BLub.

Nice turnset. I opened the save and looked around. We should probably take the 4 cities of the Celts closest to us and than capitulate her. They should all fall relatively easily.

Delhi needs some micromagement on the next TS. There is surplus happiness and healthiness so there is no reason to let the population starve. Right now we can only run 2 merchants and 6 priest specialists, but we can build fast in Delhi and should be able to crank out a few building to get more useful specialists. The borders will pop in one turn allowing the iron mine to be rebuilt and additional tiles to be worked.

I see that the available wonders are being built and the tech tree is queued up to rocketry (12 techs to go). The research path seems good. We can probably get Corporation for free when we vassal the Celts to save a turn or two of research.

Charlie does not have grenadier units yet, so he should be next. By the time we take out HRE we should have infantry available so the grenadier units in Rome and Greece won't matter much. We may want to reinforce the former Ghandi cities a bit...the cities on the border of Rome only have one defender.

Delhi can't support is population with food yet. It needs to run one more turn of specialists to pop borders (as you noticed). It gets it's culture from Sistine/specialists. Since it's going to starve just 1, it might as well starve bigtime. There's no reason to work plain food tiles. So, to be clear, Delhi will need some MM next turn, but it ok this turn IIRC. I applaud your attention to the MM task.

Our only concern with B's cities is that her culture will not cause the capitol to flip back to her. We probably need the cities you mentioned, mesix, but let's not spend too much time on her if it can be avoided. Maybe we can get one of the needed cities in trade for captiulation. Probably not, cus those cities are too big.

Yes, we should be able to get Corp from Boudica in the vassal deal.

I updated page 1.

I guess we need some swap:
Balthalion - UP, but he's asking to swap
culdeus - on deck, but he's away since 11/25
greatbeyond
Mesix

If Balth confirms he prefers swap, probably GB is up.
A bit worried for Culdeus, he's usually active and he informs when away.

If necessary, I can take the save and play Friday or Saturday. Ill wait and see if Culdeus shows up. I'll look at the save this evening for any ideas on speeding up the war and the possibility of building any wonders.

I got a quick look at the save in, and it's looking pretty good. as is WTs penchant for queues. :D I noticed there were no airship atttacks in the log. What happened there, WT?

btw, I am away, as stated, til tues or maybe wed next week.

I've reviewed everything here, bu haven't looked at the save yet. Will do so tonight and try to play over the weekend sometime after getting some semblance of a plan.

The general idea is to continue to push forward with the wars against the non gren opponents while building military at forward cities and wonders at the rear cities. Correct? Research path?

We are currently at war with only the Celts. We should take the capitol (Bibracre) and two additoinal cities (Tolosa and Camulodunum) at a minimum before allowing the Celts to capitulate to us. We may wnat to take an additional city of the culture pressure on Bibracre is too great. We can't allow Bibracre and its wonder to be culture flipped before the end of the game. The war shouldn't be much of a problem as we have rifels and they have longbows and macemen.

Your turn set should get us close to finishing the Celtic war. Following that we are planning to attack HRE to the north. We should probably discuss what HRE cities we want for our empire before allowing them to capitulate.

I've looked around and taken screenshots of some things. At first glance I think we have far too big a SoD to just send it due West and not split it off. JC will take a considerable time to move through his land and there just isn't much to the West to take after we get B to vassal. Given what we have visible of B and knowing what's she's countered with it will be a knife meet butter with her.

I didn't look at our SoD, but I had the same feeling. Should we simultaneously attack HRE as we finish B? I'd feel better if we had both of them vassals in the next 2 TS....12 turns.

Hey, I just looked at the save and I see our superhealer is wandering around HRE land all alone. Maybe someone (me) accidentally put him in explore mode? I have no idea how long he's been wandering. Please cancel his orders and bring him back. The good news is he is revealing how weak Aachen (HRE) is.

I'm not sure why we didn't keep Madras. Boudica already took that island an borders expanded. Every city, even the new crappy whale city I took is a positive addition. It seems there are 4 cities putting pressure on the one city we want. We'd basically have to take all her cities to make that one productive. Let's get a list of all the keeper cities for B and HRE.

Boudica
--------
Vienne
Bibracte
Tolosa

HRE
----
Ulm
Aachen
Prague (raze?)
Nuremberg (raze?)

I'm not a fan of razing any cities (Prague & Nuremberg) this late in the game unless they are completely nonproductive. With the shrines in place we are gaining something from keeping most cities that we take by force. Newly acquired cities can build wealth to overcome their sap on the economy. If we raze a city the affected AI will probably just build a new one anyway. Razed cities will also affect diplo and angry vassals are not guaranteed to vote for us if we go the UN route. It is always nice to keep our options open.

In Boudica's land, I think Camulodunum is a keeper too.

This is the screen that shows the current SoD.

Tolosa has a 3xLB 2xWE and a galic warrior with 50% bonus and a river to cross.

To take it I'd plan on boarding 4 cannons and 2 rifles and 2 cavalry on ships and put them 1SW of tolosa. Those ships then swing around the little isthmus for pickup to divert the cavalry one rifle and one cannon to camuldomummm.

A small stack sweeps up and kills pisa fast and then puts pressure on ulm slowly. Big stack moves west and pushes to bibacrte while linking up with the victorious tolosa troops and the victorious camuldodommm troops for a huge combined assault (less the ulm troops).

I think in 6 turns I can get pisa, ulm(maybe), tolosa, bibcrete and camuldonum. Which ones do you want me to keep?

There is no river to cross.

Units are already boarded, and can unload this turn.

I'd prefer units travel on land in this case (after unloading west of Tolosa). Not sure you can even save 1 turn by sailing around south to Bibracte. You may run into a stack of frigates for all we know.

I wouldn't waste time on Camuldonum or Pisa. culture pressure from those should not be significant.
