SGOTM 08 - The Real Ms. Beyond

I am still there.

I have not looked at the save recently, so I have no idea if the situation is clear enough to play a bit more or if we need to discuss a bit.

I could play a few turns this week end, if we have a (relatively) clear plan.
(I won't be able to look at it before satursday morning)

I think the plan is:

- Establish city on island
- Explore the seas
- Build the GLH in the capital
- Get to priesthood for a possible Oracle and then writing
- Get one more axe to Shaka and continue harrasing/choking him.

I had a look at the save, and here is what I suggest for the very short term.

Techs
put writing (4t) on hold, start Poly (5t instead of Medi 4t as Temple of Artemis is a nice option for later) then Priest 4t. By that time GLH could be finish and we want to have the option to start Oracle. Also fiishing Writing would not bring any thing good as all cities have better things to build for now.

Yasold (cap). GLH at max prod once size7 is reached (in 2t)
Hari. granary 3t at max prod, before axes while growing a bit.
Marble city : granary, lighthouse (both to be whipped).

workers
will go to chop (and mine) the forrest on hills and won't touch the forrest that marble city can work (they could be cottaged later to take advantage of both cities working them).

WB will explore around the southern island before netting (need culture) for marble.
Galley could explore a bit north.

2 axes next to Shaka : after pillaging road on the way, they will fortified themselves on the forrested hill 1W of his city (to see, prevent any settler to go away and choke)

Plan to play later tonight, so you have a bit of time to comment.

Will stop either :
- Shaka does something unplanned
- GLH done
- something wrong happens

Back from vacation....and available to play/ comment. - I'll catch up on everything I've missed later today.

1240BC - T69
Reorganise Hari.. to build granary at max prod (3t)
Change research to Polyteism

IBT shaka worker is gone away

1200BC - T70
change Yasod citizen to avoid growing too fast into unhappiness and gain (at little) production

1160BC - T71
Found Angkor Thom on marble
sgotm8angkorpl2.jpg

start granary to be whipped asap

1120BC - T72
Hari granary -> axe in 4t with sligthly more food (growth in 4t)

1080BC - T73
Temple of Salomon built somewhere

Meet JoaoII next to Shaka a quite highly promoted single archer.
sgotm8joaopr0.jpg

We should rething our strategy, but for now, I don't think it changes the immediat plans so I keep playing a bit.

IBT Shaka attacked and lost an axe trying to kill ours (on forrested hill, behind river !).
GWall built far away

1040BC - T74
Poly->Priest

1000BC - T75
Shaka is sending away (our way) a settler-archer-impi.
sgotm8shakasettleraz0.jpg

I move the axes to intercept on unforrested flat land

975BC - T76
Priest->Writing
Hari axe-> axe
Whip angkor granary

Shaka settler went back inside his city, while archer-impi stay on the forest.

950BC - T77
This time the impi is gone but the settler is back.
I stay waiting (1axe trying to heal slowly).

925BC - T78
GLH done, I selected Oracle (4t only) as a placeholder.

Shaka settler is gone again.

The southern island is quite big, the WB has not finished circling it.
I realize I had 'abandon' Shaka copper, but theworker has been going the other way. (Also I ws not going to have a single axe wonders on its own while Shaka has 2 more promoted than us). When we have more, 1 should go back there.

We might want to discuss a bit.

I can either continue to Oracle (for CoL I guess) a bit later.

Short term I suggest we go Oracle (CoL) then temple of artemis (with the last hill chop), while continuing getting axes in Hari and Angkor should whip a library and hire to 2 scientist asap.

Hmm, it is quite late, so I am not sure if we can delay the Oracle for a good tech.

Ah yes, anyone else in favour of renaming our cities to sane names?:)

Good work and turnset!

CoL from Oracle sounds good; Jabah's earlier comments on religion for :) were quite prescient as we have still not uncovered more happy resources. I would not go for Artemis though; even with its GLH synergy I've never thought it very good. Instead I would focus Capital City on expansion post-Oracle as we now have the wonder that is the ticket to spam cities heedless of maintenance. The two sites marked on our island are good, as are the two fish on northern island and clam-stone-sheep to the south (of course, that may get revised based on what the boat finds going around).

Finding the southern stone is a great boon; once we get that up I think Marbleburg will be a good place for Moai, which will give it the production to build great library+national epic down the road.

Not sure what our tech path should be besides the Oracle grab though.

I am now fully caught up and ready to participate in discussion. When I get the chance, I will attempt to fix the HoF Vista problem so that both gOng and I can participate some turns.

I support the CoL-Oracle plan.

When are we going to finish Shaka off? We're going to need a constant supply of units to maintain our choke, so he doesn't pick them off one by one.

Also, once we get enough units to maintain our choke, we should send an axe to continue scouting. With Joao out there, there is the possibility of others.

We shouldn't worry about the ToA yet, as we could use our capital's production on the units we require in the short run.

Artemis or not

I was suggesting going for temple of Artemis after, more because it will take 10t (and even less if we have a chop into it) and is quite nice with GLH (and possibly foreign trade now that we have met Joao), but that was just a suggestion and more military to finish Shaka is also a very valid option as is building a few settlers for the islands - we need 2 more offshore cities to maximize the GLH.

military

One axe is on its way (slowly walking). As soon as it meets the others, I suggest we send the healthy ones back next to Shaka city to 'control' the settler and find the worker (and pillage the roads), while the injured one should move away from Shaka's lands to heal faster.
The one that will finish next turn should embark and possibly be dropped onto the copper to prevent Shaka connecting it (with some luck, we might even capture the worker trying to reconnect)
We should also considere building some barracks especially if both cities are on military for a little while.

Guys. - I've just checked out the results page and we are officially the slowest team....Lets step it up. - Who can play next?

I think we should blitz Shaka with everything we can throw at him.

His city site looks better than anything else around.
It would act as a stepping stone to Joao, and
It would ultimately get us horses which we will (probably) need later.

BTW - Has anyone heard from Chmoosi -He advocated going for Colossus after Oracle.

I support the barracks build to aid the war effort.

Since neither shaka nor Joao have a religion, I would prefer going for CoLaw (we might need a courthouse in Shaka city as well). But being able to build Forges is also nice.

If we take Metal Casting we get forges and have made a move down the road to Feudalism and Guilds (I'm thinking Defence and Mobile Attack units)....As we plan a military campaign these would be useful tech's to have.....BUT....CoL/ Courthouses and a religion would aid happiness and maintenance.....And we can always use our Ballista Elephants as an early mounted unit since we have Ivory....SO...Based on a very quick analysis...Lets go CoL.

To me MC is more tempting for possible Colossus, and going down the route towards optics. But I still think a religion for happiness is better and vote CoL.

I think maintaining the choke is better than trying to take him out pre-Catapults; again there is currently just too long between when we produce units and when they get there to comfortably judge what sufficient force is.
I will be unavailable this weekend and can't think of anything else, good luck to whoever takes the turns.

Sorry guys, I'm hadn't been much around. (18 years partying takes 6 / 8 nights between 31.10 - 7.11 :) ) But how about the game, it looks good and plans too - I support too the CoL-Oracle plan.

Archduke. - How did you get on?

I've got some free time this week so I can pick up after you if we want to discuss and move things along.
