Another thing that might have been good is finding a way around the locked alliances and putting the 2 factions at war against each other. But that start was horrid, I don't think I'll feel too eager to try it again on my own.
 
I will try and get the fractions against each other before we start with Korea as we can give Arabs mil trad as a bait...hope tomorrow the connection is better...this way working on the internet is terrible

Looks like a tough nut to crack. Will hold the offense until we have our 12 power army on the field.

Should we take a wild gambit on finishing it off with cavalries, sell libraries, stop research and just short-rush the heck out of everything we need? Or maybe just get nationalism for the war-time boni. Our rep is trashed anyways, so I'd just go ahead and rop-rape the ottoman, literally.

Steam power next turn. We have 3 settlers on the frontline, I'm for "forcing" 2 around the japanese fur town to grab some ourselves. We could also spend a settler (or a worker colony for that matter) claiming the gems near Delhi. This would allow to trade one more, and we could use the gold.

Scandinavia are rich right now, and the europeans are at war ... in general. This looks like a very nice occasion to ally the asian faction against, say, france, and the rest against, for example, america. America/England and Scandinavia/France/Germany are 2 locked alliances, and so are our 2, so there could be some nasty action right there.

well, I can't complain too much as we gain another MGL killing the French cavs that landed way southeast

ToE would be great, it would finally give us tech parity hopefully. Hopefully the Univ Suffrage cascades are over before the AI's get the tech. Not sure we can spare that many cavs though. We'll also need to start to brush-up on our artillery warfare if this goes on to infantries.

Good work at Besancon, we have a foothold, this is important. It's all irrigated+roaded stuff too, which is great for prospective science farming.

Nice job packing our continent against one another, though leaving many cities unprotected in the mid lands we own could quickly result in losing cities left and right when they decide those are tastiest.
 
I tried to protect those exposed cities already..now with rails it will be much easier to stack our units wherever we need them. We should be pretty safe.

I hope we can get electricity as monopoly then go for sci methods and bag that wonder...this should give us room for trading.

They all fight wars which bogs them down..and once they get facism, they will change to that useless government I hope...

I'll look at the shield and beaker numbers and start the best prebuild I can for ToE.
 
T2: start building a navy, drop by drop. I'll try going for a few privateers, there's boats belonging to people we're not at war with, out there, and all boats are good privateer food.

T3: Reinforce the arab border, they send out a few cavs here and there.

T4: Lose a cavalry but gain an army defending Dijon from german and french knights and cavalries. Raze the next french town out there. I start having bad feelings about the outcome of the lives of the 6-7 stray jap and indian units going NW towards Egypt and Turky

T5: Electricity has been learned. No monopoly for us, but on the bright side it will cost us nearly 600 less beakers.

T6: Electricity was most likely discovered by Scandinavia, which now has 17 000 gold. Peace for the factions of our continent, now it's all us vs arabia.

T7: One less city on the French coast

T8: ...and one further.

T9: India declares on us.

T10: Spot a large number of sipahis coming south down the korean border. I smell something really foul cooking, and it doesn't even relate to your ex mother in law's chicken stu.

We have new garrison for Dijon, keep it well guarded. An army can be lifted up to the continent for some triple teaming action in France. Another is ready to be sent west; the naval action has been scarce lately, so while I would not risk sending it straight west, I definitely would send it SW to Dijon for a relay with the "usual" traffic line.

The micro for most core cities is sloppy, but with rails in progress, there isn't wonders to be done.

did you trade electricity when we got it? What about sci methods? Is it known? Maybe we still have a chance to get ToE.

I would love to sign peace with Arabia now and attack the Indian fraction and take them out completely. Should be possible. At the same time, keep on pounding France.
 
No one knows sci method, and I did not sell it around indeed. The civs we can sell it to are all broke and have no rep (no one has on the map) so we still have a world of trades ahead of us. No new techs have been learned or traded among what we know of since we got electricity. I doubt we can get more than 2 techs with it, but if we grab industrialization and nationalism it would be great. We don't have that many cities to spare for a factory now anyways, with a navy to build and a palace going on, but we can always try.
You're right though, I should have acted on it; we fell lucky.

Arabia is now willing to negociate and I turned the warning off in CA2 last time I played AW, I'm regretting it now :blush:

The pounding on France is self-sufficient and well fed. With 3-4 more cavs to fill full 4-men armies, it will take big badluck to lose an army to a rifle.

Pretty quiet turn, overall:

- We get ToE, it brings us Atom Theory and Electro
- Egypt declares
- Korea extincts
- Arabia signs in a MA against us, have to upgrade a bunch of catapults and trebs into artilleries

- Scandinavia researches combustion the turn we need it
- We are almost at Mass production
- Scandinavia has Flight

I've been producing infantries wherever I could, a few factories and preparing the way for tanks. We still need several static defenders. Once we actually have tanks, I say we start moving in onto our own neighbors. Otherwise we can always go for Scandinavia before anyone else gets Flight. They are crazily rich. We'll need to drop a huge load of artilleries and infantries, let them waste troops on them.

Basically, war on our continent would be much shorter to prepare, but it would be more dangerous. I guess we could try to boot germany off our island, have them declare on us this way, and let ottomans waste a few sipahis in boat drops overboard.

I'm sincerely sorry, but I'm not going to make it for the Feb 1st deadline. I'm caught up in school work and if I played it would be even sloppier than what I've done so far - which wasn't shiny I assure you.

Back in september I thought I could handle 1 SG, but I changed university, jumped a level into grad school and found out it was that much more difficult. I've had a week of break for christmas and made the most of it for this game, but it's long gone. I'm afraid the week and a half left will not be better for me than the last month at all. 2 hours of good brain time doesn't appear much in my free schedule.

I'm sorry it comes to this, but my brain time is on a rough schedule. A shame about being 2 playing it for 2000 years as well. I guess I was a bit hard on Rick at the beginning, TLM had his family and SW ... who knows ;)

Been nice playing with you again, I'm optimistic it will re-happen, sometimes :)
