Spooks got industrialization as their free tech, but none of the scientific AI in their game got medicine - so some of our bad luck with fascism is offset.
Turns out it is possible to get a second tier tech if you don't have all the first tier techs at age change. In fact if we had avoided buying nationalism it may have increased our chances at getting something good.
And it looks like we have achieved my goal of not finishing last as X-Nuts are at 1290AD and don't have replaceable parts yet.

Interesting that Spooks are aiming for hospitals, though the news that they didn't get medicine will have knocked their plans for super-specialist farms back some. They're still way ahead on the tech curve though.

Only Regular and Smurkz are yet to finish, from the looks of it - and they're both quite a distance from doing so. Smurkz in particular!

Sadly there are no bonus points for reaching victory quickly on the calendar.
Looks like something happened to Ivan on the last turn and they did not end up with the opponent they were expecting on the UN vote. I am guessing some cities may have switched hands on the IBT, or maybe their opponent had some last minute pop growth to edge into 2nd place.

They didn't understand the mechanics of how the UN opponent is chosen, from what I'm reading.
