SGOTM8 - Wacken

Looks good!!! Everything went as planned... Chemistry in 2 turns and trade for astronomy...
I suggest keep resarching metalurgy after CHemistry full speed and no stopping research
i am worried about Copernicus though.. AIs never built any of MA wonder yet
(am i right here???) so once they know astronomy wonder cascading can steal Copernicus from us.

Looks nice.

Ok, to start with the technology:

As you could see, magnetism is the remaining favorite for the AI.
I suggest the following plan:

After Chemistry, wait for astronomy, trade.
Now, the AI can either research Phisics, one of the optionals techs, or metallurgy. We research physics and then ToG.

-If they are researching metallurgy, that is good, we will trade it when they are ready.
-If they are researching physics, they will get it from us when we are ready with it. After that, they will most likely do magnetism. (while we do ToG and Metallurgy)
-If they are researching an optional tech, those are pretty cheap and they should be done quickly, possibly in 4/5 turns and be ready when we are so with Physics. After that, they shall most likely do Magnetism for us.

So by waiting a little while for Astronomy, we will get Either magnetism or metallurgy from the AI.

In the capital, we can swap to newtons prebuild safely now, we will have the techs in time easilly. I think we should do this. Keep mining fields to get it to 20 spt.

The grasslands near Chicago also need to be mined.

Boston and Atlanta can use a little MM to get an extra shield / commerce.

Miami needs an aquaduct very badly. How comes it aint there ?

Did you mean navigation or Magnetism?

Chicago can only afford to lose one irrigated grass if we want it to use all the mountains. If you give Washington the BG (and mine it) that 2 shields plus the extra shield from the plains being mined now will give it the 20 shields it needs. In fact, you could move from the lake to the BG next turn to get an extra shield that much quicker. Chicago will grow in 3 either way. Once Chicago grows to size 12 it will use the last mountain and be at 12 shields.

Miami doesn't have an aqueduct as I decided to extract a worker or two instead. We need a lot more workers with steam power looming not that far away, and there is already more to do than our workforce can cope with. I guess it is an inefficient use of good tiles to keep it at pop<7 though, so it ought to build one.

I have been trying to improve Washington's production, but it does look like there is room for more improvement.

Boston has been tough to keep from rioting, and if funds permit, rushing the market here would be nice. Its production is a bit lame but it has lots of commerce. Similarly Phily could really do with a market after it finishes its wonder. As well as giving us lots of cash they would let us drop the lux rate, which is preventing us from achieving 4 turn research.

@Offa. Sorry for leaving you with so few workers. I was joining them to our town like crazy. It just felt right at that time to get our research fast ASAP and workers didn't have much to do... I am sure we will be able to pump enough for the time when Steam is researched.
I agree that Boston need marketplace badly. However if it is only the town with hapiness problems it's better to hire there a scientist rather than bumping lux slider. If we can rush market there while we are not researching anything that would be nice
Can we get slider to 10% if we have markets build in all core cities? (but Boston perhaps)

Late arrival to this post turn discussion. Only thing I can think of adding to it is: I hope Macao outgrows Chengdu so we can get the Chinese capital to jump north...

Well done, Offa.

At this point, i think it is best to make more workers from the ICS stuff while growing our second core to size 12. Even with worker joins.
It is more important to grow that core than to get ICS scientists IMO.

We could join chinese slaves maybe. It will cost less worker force. If we extreminate them it is no problem at all, if we do not, the flip chance of non bordering cities should be incredibly small since they have more of our people, they have culture from our libraries, and we have national culture.

The gold we gather while waiting for astronomy i think can be used for rushbuilding the still needed aquaducts and maybe marketplaces if that indeed brings the slider down.

We should keep slave workers since they do not cost support. Better to join our own workers since the do.

Well, usually i think it is a close call whom are more valuable to me. In this case, we have fewer units than we have support, and we have a big worker shortage, therefore it seems more interesting to me to join the slaves.

Preflight check: go thru towns, looks good. Shave about 3T off Uni build in San Fran. MM to get Chicago to grow this turn. Switch St. Dman to a ‘duct from worker (need to get 2nd core pop up), Miami to a ‘duct. Find some fortified workers near Shanghai, so I wake them up and they head S. Send Horses towards Nanking.

IBT: Athens settler -> worker; NY market -> worker; Canton Settler -> worker; Seattle market -> Uni; Dallas worker -> worker; Memphis worker -> worker

T1: 360AD moving stuff

IBT: Chems -> off, netting a healthy 268gpt

T2: 370AD

IBT: rutrow, Rome demands Chemistry. They back off, but maybe we should think about some more military soon :)

NY worker -> worker

T3: 380AD

NY worker -> worker

T4: 390AD Found Richmond -> worker; join a worker into Buffalo
Rome has Astro, buy it for Chems, WM, and 228g. Set research for Physics @ 80%, 5T, -34gpt.
Washington switched to Sistine’s as a prebuild, Philly to Copernicus (7T). Rush settlers in Beijing and Baltimore for 36g total.

IBT: Beijing settler -> settler, NY worker -> Uni; Baltimore settler -> settler; Cleveland worker -> worker
Romans are building Copernicus in Veii, Chinese are building Leo’s

T5: 400AD MM sci slider, Physics still in 4T. Sell Japan Chems for Chivalry, WM, 2gpt, and 35g

Atlanta market -> worker; Eindhoven Harbor -> market

T6: 410AD 2 workers join Houston, 1 joins Buffalo, 2 join Eindhoven; Found Las Vegas -> harbor

IBT: Atlanta worker -> Uni; Lost our wool

T7: 420AD Ask China to leave but no option for the “or declare”. We could use some war happiness now that the wool is gone.
Found Phoenix -> worker; Find that I only need to mess with Buffalo, Boston, and Athens, so wool really not hurting us right now.

IBT: Tsingtao settler -> worker; Denver worker -> worker; KC worker -> worker; San Diego worker -> worker

T8: 430AD Ask China to leave or declare, and they leave :( Well, then declare anyways.
@ Nanking: horseman retreats from vSpear (2/4); Horseman kills rSpear (2/4); Horseman kills rSpear (1/4); Horseman kills rSpear (1/4); Horseman dies to rSpear (2/3); Horseman kills 2/3 spear and promotes (5/5)

@Tientsin: archer captures worker, and I see a rPike in town.

IBT: Lose the captured worker. Vikings land 2 warriors next to Anyang
Physics -> ToG 80%, 5T, -42gpt

T9: 440AD Pillage Chinese Iron. Near Tientsin and KC; Horseman retreats from vSpear (4/4)
@ Nanking: eHorseman kills vSpear (3/5); eArcher redlines but dies to rSpear (2/4); 2/4 horse and we take the town + 2 settlers
Capitol jumps to Maccao.
Cover Richmond and KC with the little troops we have up there.

IBT: Vikings declare, taking Anyang, Renew Furs deal with Rome, giving Dyes, Wines, and 90g; Chinese LB kills archer near Tientsin

T10: 450AD Found Albuquerque and Portland; Kill a LB near Tientsin and Macao with horseman. Other horseman are healing in Denver, San Diego, and Cincinnatti.

We need more troops, so I rushed 1 LB in Xinjian after directing a chop.

1T from Sistines

Sorry, too late for pics.

Ah, gotta go to work now, will take a closer look tonight. As i will not be able to play later this weekend, i will play tonight, 12 hours after this post.
So if you got things to discuss, do it before 12 hours or let me know if i should delay my turnset.

Looks a bit shaky at the moment. I would like us to get someone in on our side vs. the Vikings since we cannot carry the war to them. Maybe get someone in on our side vs. the Chinese too in an attempt to get the island locations captured. Still at war with Greece??? Appart from that I have every confidence you will do a great job Wacken. Nothing really important to discuss as to plans for the next turn set. Just dealing with the current situation is enough. Maybe that we need soldiers and to capture the chinese iron.

That is an option, if we make allies against the vikings however, we need to stay at war for 20 turns. During those 20 turns we continu to risk landings.

If we do not make any alliances against the Vikings, we can just defend against the landings for a while and then make peace as soon as they are willing to talk with us. I do not see any problems in offering them technologies in exchange for peace.

I will tonight look carefully to see where we have the opportunity to build units without hurting our research economy too much.

I am most worried about our city on the spices island, if we lose that, we cannot retake it and the spices are lost forever.

I am not so sure about aliance against vikings either...
I doubt they will launch massive scale attack.
Why don't we have chivalry yet??? Lets trade it with someone and upgrade couple of horses we have. Oh... I reckon we need to take that iron chinese town first of course.
Then all we need to do is tracking viking galleys for next couple of turns until they are willing to make peace with us.

hmm, not that it matters as we can't build knights, but I thought I bought Chivalry on turn T5 :hmm: Anyways, we don't have iron, which, imho, is very important to capture. Also, we can get a chinese town very close to a lux source for peace after taking the iron town.

As far as greece goes, yes, I was suprised to still be at war with them, but it's really not hurting us via WW and they are not building any units to throw at us so I didn't think it was a problem.

we can either skip 1st spoiler or post it really late when every single team passes the point of no return.

and no i am not volunteering for the spoiler... I suck at it.
