I just had to say it... :lol: Thankfully someone on their team posted a new messge just minutes after your post so hopefully none on the other teams will have spotted it.
 
lurker's comment: Great game! :king: It was very entertaining to watch this thread and klarius' as the game progressed.

There were some cool strategies used by different teams, but I think your calculation of optimal Forbidden Palace placement was the best.
 
Interesting to say how team Klarius is doing this.
Their strategy combined with ours might have resulted in a few turns earlier victroy.
We did well though, and the numbers they have in mind will not beat us. CDZ seems to be far behind with 7 turn research.

Xteam might be most interesting, but they are not on our competition :)
 
Very nice finish Wotan. I don't know that I would have been able to finish in 4 turns.

I have to agree that the klarius team thread is most interesting reading, but doesn't appear they have much chance of beating us.
 
I'd say our early luck with worker and masterpiece built FP made as even with the teams who succeeded in Republic slingshot.

How come nobody in our team ever mentioned dirty trick of "giving towns/declaring/taking back more towns" that team Klarius used with such a success...

I knew this trick but never used it and it never came to my mind. We could have shaved few turns off we we did use it in our game.
 
and to second Offa it will be even more tantalizing to wait while other "slow" teams finishing their games. :)
 
I just read Klarius' thread. They did have a bit of luck with the chinese building pyramids, and the slingshot, but our early workers were good for us...

I will feel aggrieved if they win by a gamble on stopping research when they get flight. I don't think they would be contemplating that unless they saw our finish first. It could be pretty close if they try this. We seem to have reminded them about mobilzation too, but I dare say they would have figured that out for themselves.

Their gift and recapture tactic worked very well. I would like to say it was too cheesy for players like us, but frankly I never thought of it.

Regardless of the result, I think our discussions were great fun, and we played with nice focus the whole way.
 
Agree, they were quite lucky with the wonders AIs gifted to them.
But late GAs worked for us as well allowing 4 turn research in mid IAs.

I hope their flight gamlbe does not work out. It is almost as cheesy as city give away trick. :rolleyes:

funny, they can't figure out how come we are "presumably" ahead of them technologically while trailing them in culture... Our FP calculation did a miracle with our fast tech research.

C3C corruption is my weakest link and i never even try to calculate it in my games. I certainly learned something in this game.
 
Great game, and its been enjoyable lurking the Klarius-Wacken competition. The FP placement, the planning that went into it, and the early worker emphasis should be required reading in the war academy!
 
We have used the girft and retake strategy once before to get a 1 tile island in another sgotm.

I did think about it for a brief moment, but i didn't think it would be valuable as we could not build units there anyway. I had not tought ahead enough to think about the period between flight and AF, and i had not tought that it could be done without AF.
Still, the way they are doing it is not the correct way i think. They seem to be spending money on it that could have been used to increase research.

For us however, it would have been good to take 2 islands instead of only england in that time between F and AF.

The other option is what i think Xteam is going for, and that is going for conquest without even flight.
If using that strategy you can do with 15 less technology researched, you save 30k gold right there. That is a lot of rushbuilding. I think this strategy has a very strong potential and i feel glad they are not in our competition :)
 
Yes Wacken, we did gift and recapture in sgotm5, although the game situation was very different. Then we were just trying to extort a one tile island near the end of the game. I feel OK about us not doing it here. As it was we had a tough time defending our meagre overseas holdings, and doing more might have meant spending money.

Conquest without flight would clearly benefit most from gift/recapture/extortion. It seems to me that this would work better in PTW, because of the way palace jumps work. It must be a high risk strategy.
 
hmm, will be close with Team K :) Interesting that thier research has started lagging in the IA. I would have thought they would have planned for that and realized how many bpt they needed to keep up the fast research. :thumbsup: for Wacken for keeping us focused on that!
 
I've just logged in and the only people who are online and in this forum - 5 members of our team that is everyone but G-Man... :lol:
Aren't we waiting inpatiently for others. :crazyeye:
