Is SOL exclusive to English or to all 4 nations? I have seen English has several frigates. Thank your for your help.

I think all nations except the Spanish. I have personally gotten ships of the line from the Dutch and the English. All have been in the form of "new warship2".

They are quite rare but the following might help, although I am not 100% sure of the mechanics:

1: Play in the later eras 1660s, 1680s

2.Really pick on the nation(not spanish). Hoewever, the type of ships produced might be dependant on the economy of the towns, so leave the nation a prosperous town or two.

Getting a Large Frigate is much easier and they are very similar in functionality, just find Henry Morgan and take it from him.

all eras have the SotL. all are hard to find.

They usually first appear as "New Warship".

They look exactly like a frigate.

Spain will never have one.

The SotL seems to be a little more common in the Pirates' Sunset era. Atleast in my experience. So you might want to start a game in the 1680s to see more sailing around.

I think the individual county being at war might increase how many frigates and SotLs they send out. In the a recent game France was at war with the English and Spanish for several months right at the start. And it didn't take long for me to see two SotLs sailing around French waters listed as "New Warships". Maybe because they had been losing so many ships?

i have had pirats for 1 year and NEVER SEEN A SHIP OF THE LINE i have started in the 1660s and played in the 1680 and still never seen one. is there any more hints to fine one

sorry i messed up. i have not had the game for a year. it is only been 1/2 of a year.

Are the frigate more versatile than the brigs? And, by the way, how can i see the upgrates that cities offer without enter them?

Aye, but ye can't beat for awesomeness!

Ships of the Line don't seem to have much function, but, as Darth Pugwash Mentioned, they are awsome. I personally preferr a royal sloop with a lot of men. Also, it bothers me that the ships of the Line only have 48 guns, most ships of the line(although it might be later in history), have 55-75 guns, seems like that would be better. Also, why don't the Spanish ever use ships if the line?:crazyeye:

Not, brigs are much more agile than frigates.

The one big flaw in Pirates is that boarding, say, a SotL from a sloop is as easy as boarding it from a war galleon. In Pirates, the smaller ships are always better because they are more manouverable, but in real life, while this was true, they could only with difficulty make a boarding of a larger ship. If this was implemented in Pirates somehow (say, you'd lose more men when attacking ships bigger than yours), both large and small ships would be real options.

Oh, Comrade Pedro, forgot I was replying to you there for a minute. You can see on the map what upgrades cities offer if you've been there before or had a tip-off from a bartender. Otherwise you'll have to land to find out.

I've never actually managed to get a SotL, but I have acquired other Frigates and I can think of one use for them. The Royal Sloop is my favorite ship, but it can't hold much cargo, so I like to keep a second ship as a troop/cargo transport. Although some of the larger trade ships can hold more goods, they would slow down my fleet too much, so I would think that the frigate class would be the best for this task, due to their faster speed.

The other reason why I have always wanted one is because my sloop can get pretty beat up at times and I find myself racing pirate hunters to the closest friendly port. With an extra fighting class ship, I might actually have a chance to give battle to my pursuers, something I couldn't do with a Treasure Ship.

Which is why it's so much fun to end up building up 4 to 8 ship prize fleets from time to time.

I have had this game since it's release, and I have played it pretty extensively, and in all that time I have only seen ONE ship of the line!

Afew minutes ago I started up a new career, and bang, 5 minutes into the game I run into a Dutch ship of the line outside St.Martin...t'was an epic battle, it took a couple of reloads but I captured her, hopefully it will be lots of fun roaming around the carribean with it. :D

I am amazed by reports of players who have captured whole fleets of these elusive ships!! How is it possible to find that many?! Maybe I am just unlucky.
