after reading here about the "exploit" of not bothering building go straight to army making, I gotta agree it's a short road to success..but it's a little like kissing your sister.
smaller cities did have the effect of keeping the REF down to single digits (in all of its various catagories)
The big news for this game though was indian tradiing, I've never bought thier stuff for resale to Europe, but while you don't make much money on thier stuff back to the mother country you do end up giving them gold to be able to buy your way-over priced horses/guns and occasional toolsets I was just at 100k when I had to shut down due to storms in the area and haven't been back to it, but I got over 75 guys with horses for 30 dragoons and enough guns squirrled away for everybody ..and I have yet to buy any cannon, against the 30ish REF, so I'm pretty confident....and I can see how it's viewed as an exploit cuz it's pretty no brainer....unlike the game where I had 7+ cities of over 20 people and the REF was in the thousands (it seemed) it came down to my last city iwth Jed Jethro and granny all taking turns shooting the kings men from a little silver outpost way up in the hills..they won but only cuz granny had made the 'shine.
