Hi, I have a Radeon 9200 with 128 MB and a 512 MB RAM. I've heard that Civ IV has trouble running on a system such as mine. Is that true? Also, even if it does run, is Civ4 worth purchasing? (I've read that there are a lot of bugs, or have all of those been fixed?)

I'm running:

Pentium IV 2.8 GHz
1 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9100 (128MB RAM) (PCI card.. yeah, I know)

and am happy enough with the performance... though I usually only play "normal" size maps with 7 Civs, and haven't tried the larger maps.

I don't know what the minimum requirements are, but you probably don't have enough memory.

bleedblue, your system sounds identical to mine for my first few games of Civ IV. We even have the same video card (which I bought especially and exclusively to play Civ IV). The game ran just fine, though all of my games so far are like malclave's: 7 civs, standard size map, normal speed.

Near as I can tell by people's comments in this forum, the game experiences lag that gets worse the longer you play--basically, the animated units' movements are choppier. (You can turn that feature off, but I kind of like it and tolerate the lag.)

I upgraded from 512 to 1 GB of RAM to help alleviate the game lag. It still happens to me, but now takes longer, and I find exiting the game completely and restarting usually clears it up for quite a while. Or I just go to bed.

I play with Geforce 4Ti (64MB) and 256 MB RAM, at lowest settings and normal maps. The late game was always slow but the latest patch solved the problem.

I had a rig like that. It ran, but ran slow evn on standard maps after the the entireworld become known.

I upgraded my Radeon 9250 12mb to a Radeon X1300 Pro 256MB
Seriously upgrade first, otherwise gameplay will suck

Ive got a 1.9 G Dell Demension with your RADEON 128 9550. When I only had 250 MB it still ran but slow, but surprisingly not till the industrial!. so I bought 512 mor MB and that made it all work.

The thing I would ask is.. You already found this place, thats have the battle. Before I checked out the mods on this site I was gettin tired of Civ3conq after only 6 monthes! So ask your self, have you played Civ3 Complete yet, By complete Im talkin [c3c] completly tricked out with all the highest quilty mods and graphic upgrades on this site. If you havn't, whats the rush to Civ4?

Do you know how much pro grade extra goodies you have waiting for you? 3D won't satisfy you for long. Enjoy every last drop of real strategy gameplay, the 2D tweaked to another level, thats been refined for years by the best in the biz..A couple of the mods for conquests (Balancer Reloaded 800 MB large with a future era) are more polished with less bugs then the game in the box.!

Remember it was years before Civ3 could be made into the materpieace it is today. Give Civ4 some more time(like another two years at least) mybe then, the stuff you,ve been hearing will or won't still be true.

I play it with only 512 MB of RAM. It works (even fairly well on Huge maps), but a Gig would be a little better.

One area where Civ4 blows Civ3 (even with any mod) out of the water is in its AI. It is much stronger.

depends on your personality ...

I have: Radeon 9550 128MB, 512MB RAM, Duron 700MHz

Game lasts twice long as usual, but in my opinion it's worth to play ...
