I don't understand how PC can be related to poster's knowledge to this game. Sure, Killer is a good example of having both a huge PC and great deal of Civ knowledge, but his PC maybe exceptionally high, compared to some other posters with the same level of knowledge. To name a few, Catt, Aeson, TNO, SirPleb, Sullla, etc. AFAIK, none of them hits the PC of 1000.

True that some people new to this forum (I really dislike the term "newbie") may think the PC reflects the poster's knowledge, but if someone who has been here for a while still thinks this way, something is definitely wrong.

Should PC be hidden? I don't care. :)

I've been here for eight months and have found out that pattern too - generally the most skilled players have lower postcounts.

Silverflame,

I believe your main gripe can be alleviated by looking at the 'Registered' date, it is no more of an approximation of someone's commitment than the PC.

Yes, but the "Registered Date" has the same unreliability as the postcount. Some people make accounts, forget about it for a year, then come back not knowing a thing about civ3. It works best for the two to be combined, which can make a pretty accurate guess.

Thanks a lot! Just as I was about to begin my profound 2 cents worth on this weighty subject! :)
CFC would be well served if PC's were hidden, located on the profile so only the individual member knows how much time he/she has wasted "just talking about it." If I can't spend a few hours reading the threads and determine who's knowledgable about the game and who's not, then I'm probably not going to learn anything here anyway.
I present as support for my position:
1 - how many times have you seen a post along the lines of...
"ZZZman, I couldn't agree more. woohoo, 200th post!"
2 - school's have been out for spring break recently. Count the number of threads in recent weeks with topics such as...
Poll: "Wot's The Most Nukes U Ever Dropped In One Turn?"
Poll: "Witch Is Best? Industrial Or Religion?" :crazyeye:
"Tried Regent And The AI Won!!!! Is This A Cheat?" :suicide:
3 - Members with 2000+ posts who ask near-newbie questions about the game. 1900 OT posts don't make an expert Civ 3 player.
Well, before this turns into a rant...
I could name about a dozen regular posters in the Civ3 threads who would demand respect if they showed zero posts and many more who wouldn't get my respect if they showed 10,000. Posting for PC happens too much. It's tough wading through all the threads looking for the pearls of wisdom I need to be "actually out playing the game."

Well, someone with a high number of posts that has only been here a few months (not talking about anyone on this page and have not checked the rest of the thread) tells me something about them. ;)

Seriously, I don't see a problem with post counts. It's easy to see who is giving the right information. I doubt someone from OT (that doesn't play Civ3) is going to tell people what to do in Civ3 GD.

WillJ,

Are you seriously saying it depends on whether your own PC is displayed, or you have to go 1-click to see it in your profile? You're one picky person!
Nah, it doesn't really mater.

I agree. And I don't think CFC has a problem with people claiming something about Civ3 is a fact, that is really wrong. Usually if someone isn't sure about something they say so. It seems like you can pretty much trust everyone on here, and if not, others will let you know. However, strategies are different, since they aren't so black and white. Post counts of course aren't a reliable source of how good someone is at Civ, and if anyone thinks it is, it's their fault; I don't think postcount should be hidden because of it.

I say keep it.

I have noticed no breaches of protocol or rank-pulling since the Postcounts were made visible.

I see no reason to pull the plug on them.

That's true...people with over 12 post per day...not that there are no NAMES being mentioned...

My dear Switch, how could you possibly say that? Of course, since you have over 4000 posts and I have a mere 1000, you are so much more knowledgeable and better than I am.

Get rid of post counts. They do nothing but foster competition, braggary (is that a word?), and penis envy.

I've never suffered from Post Count envy ;).

I don't think it really has any influence on what goes on, and I enjoy watching mine grow :p.

Post counts rule. I only know of a very few cases where people were "spamming for postcount"; on the other hand, when I see someone with 15 posts I am likely to stop and welcome them to the forum. And when I see someone I've never seen before, like Roddy VR earllier today, with more than a thousand posts, I don't mistake them for a newbie to the site.

I say drop it.

It belongs in the "My dad's bigger than your dad" kindergarten playground.

Ted

TF hides it then it appears again.... Plus there are ways around it if post count is hidden again as you can use your location to enter your post count into although you have to update it yourself.

I have seen none of this 'bully-boy elitism' that is being denounced here.

And if I did see any post-count rank-pulling, I would be amongst the first to stop it!

It seems that they are close together (29 says yes and 25 says no) and I'm sure if we get the ENTIRE CFC community to vote on this they would still be VERY close. Hmmm....

Best leave it to the Supreme Court of Moderators to decide. ;)

Well.... I could care less either way it goes... Of course... I don't think this will decrease any of the "competition" for highest post count. It'll just make it harder to do. (You can still go into the members section and see everyone's post count.)
