Should there be two? Please move, move or declare war!

I really think you should be given two options in the dialog with another leader. When they tresspass, you should have the immediate choice to tell them Move off my lands or declare war. So i think this should be an extra option along with the Please move off my lands.

It is quite annoying when you know they are going to attack, but you cannot get them to declare war. I do sometimes just attack them and declare war, does this affect my reputation?

Some civilisations must have killed any foreigner that stumbled into their lands without question.

I agree... Should be able to kick them out the first step they take into your lands, but of course it isnt until they start a attack or something before you can do anything about it... And if you attack, your the bad guy and your rep is shot to hell. My solution? Kill them all... Mwa ha ha ha CONQUESTS

Hm.

Well, if those two options would be displayed simultaniously, there wouldn't be a human player that would choose the "please leave" option.

Maybe if the invader has an army 3 times your size, you would press the "please leave" :)

what i usually do when i want the other party to declare war on me is demand everything until they become sooooo furious that a simple "move your troop or declare war" will make them declare the war for me...

is that a trick?

but i agree, why would i speak sooo harshly to a gracious friend?

I wouldn't mind having both choices. More options are usually a good thing.

think there is/ was a thread here about this after someone did some research, and the human gets exactly the same option as the AI, ie sometimes the AI asks the human to leave and sometimes it says leave or declare, under the same conditions of troop numbers, strength or troops, time in territory , etc the human will get the same option as the AI

To expand on what zurichuk is saying, there's a reason why you only get one -- it depends on the perceived threat level of the interposing troops (as I recall (I can't find the study right now either), it depended on distance from city, strength of invading troops, time in-country, and maybe another factor or two). That is, the option is a game-dependent "feature" that limits you on one hand, but allows you to occasionally sneak through the AI territory on the other.

I like it the way it is, once I understood it was at least the same for AI and human civs.

IMHO I have to say that this is the single biggest thing that makes me totaly upset with any normal civ game.
I don't ever play non edited games because of this alone.
There have been several post on it and the percentages appear to be about 80% want an option and 20% like it as is.
I've tried everything I could think of to gain some semblance of border respect. Again, IMHO it is totaly unrealistic that any nation would not even have the option to evict trespassers on the 1st incursion. Whether human/AI have the same circumstances is irrevalent.
As I've stated on other posts, the biggest offenders are naval units. Land units can be coraled, diverted, blocked ect. but naval units simply do not care about borders and to block them requires a rediculous amount of resources. Cirling your entire border with vessels that constantly need upgrading just to get some respect for territory is idiotic game design.
I sincerly doubt it will be changed so edited games is all I have available.
I like the idea offered here of infuriating the offender until the "leave or declare war" option is available. But that will lead to wars over petty incursions.
I edit all my games so that all artillery/cruise missiles and bombers have a hidden nationality. Entering my borders means one less unit to worry about. Since the AI has the same HN units available, they use the same tactics as I do.
I think the 20% who either like or deal with the circumstances as is tend to forget that the AI is limited in intelligence.
For instance. I could send a single explorer across the entire continent without worry of eviction, get a complete map and sell it for x value. The computer would never even consider such a manuever. I bet that given the option, the human player wouldn't be the only one evicting 1st time offenders.

Just as a test for those that play PVP games. Rape another player for his world map with the explorer trick. He will be completly unable to evict you without declaring war.
