I don't think that politeness is unimportant in an online community .

Anyway I think it is rather silly how some people get uptight about getting or giving credit. Not because the modder does not need credit. They should have it, but half of who they are giving credit to are recycling from another source. So the original maker of say unit A art is forgotten in years of backlog of crediting who compiled the art later in a large mod.

Sure right, sure right, but that doesn't make the need to credit the creators obsolete.
That some are in because they recycled or further modified the stuff is imho also warranted. They might be credited for the wrong things, but help (and if it's just help for finding stuff) can also be credited.
