Unless there is some reason that I do not know, I can;t believe that the ability to change the color of civ's (Both yours and the AI) was left out in Civ3. Once I played a game where Rome and Babylon were neighbors, but they were both the same shade of red. Although I can see their border and turn on color blind help, it is annoying to look at on the minimap.

The Civ Edit program allows you to change the colors for each of the civilizations in your civ.biq file. It should be in your main game directory. If you are using C3C it's Civ3ConquestsEdit.exe. If vanilla civ, look for the file called Civ3Edit.exe. I've extensively changed the colors of nearly all my civs so that they are clearly different from each other. The stock colors that came with the game weren't so easily recognizable, particularly with the Conquests addition adding more civs. Make sure you backup your conquests.biq file before modifying! :)

I think it's not too much to ask to be able to change the colours in-game. I once had a game where there were four adjacent civs (china, arabia, scandinavia and india) with "very pale" colours and on the minimap it was impossible to see borders. And I don't think we should have to edit the game ourselves to fix this.

Now that would Definitely be preferable. It took me a long time to figure out how to work the edit program (I'm not fluent with modding) and even now it was a chore to change all those colors. I would absolutely love to be able to set national colors inside a game after it's already begun even, and there's no real reason why it couldn't be done.

Incidentally, Bartleby, do you use any of the border mods? They do make border delineations easier to see.

BTW, Rhye made a fix for this, adding even more visually pleasing colors. But you are right, it is a shame that things like this became necessary. :(

You can even change the set of colours by modifying the ntp.pcx ! Rhye started doing this and some others ( including me ) made their own palettes. With PSP, it's quite easy. You can even make palettes with 2 or three colour to have England red and white or France "bleu blanc rouge" :)

So, I don't think it should be a new feature to civ4 because it allready exists in civ3 :D
