I absolutely loved this game back when it came out in the late 90's. I was hoping there would be a more up to date version by now. Austerlitz: Napoleon's Greatest Victory(2002) used the same engine, but the choppy graphics look especially blocky on modern day higher res monitors.

Anyone know of any similar games like this (that came out recently)? One great thing about the engine was the smartly programmed AI, the use of battle formations, and the whole realtime aspect of it.

Someone recomended the Total War series, but the AI is horribly inept in those games. Also, the Gettysburg and Austerlitz gameplay seemed more epic, probably because battles take longer to play out.

I used to have XP and had the same problem. Is there a huge white or black rectangle blocking off all your interfaces? That's what happened to me after I bought it... the demo worked just fine, damn them.

Hmm, @ the OP, the AI didn't seem particularly clever to me. On the first battle, where the Union cavalry has to hold off Rebel infantry from crossing the river, their men seemed perfectly content to line up in battle formation and shoot the ground in front of me in case I tried to make a move. They didn't move themselves for quite some time.

I loved playing Gettysburg and Antietam on my old Windows98, especially given the random battles function. I tried Waterloo!, which is based off the same engine, but I never "got it".

Antietam's terrain was especially interesting: I could never get the hang of mountain battles. In general I like Antietam's interface and Gettysburg's map.
