Sipahi? What Sipahi? Where?

I am playing a regent game as the Ottomans. My strategy was to beeline for Military Tradition and overrun the world with my hordes of Sipahi. Imagine my surprise and frustration when I get to Military Traditon and I can't build Sipahi.

No, I am not a newbie. I have horses and saltpeter. Otherwise, how could I build cavalry. Yes, thats right cavalry.

Here's the screen picutre showing the Ottoman cavalry. Anyone else have this problem?

Were you playing with the 'allow civ specific abilities' not marked? I've never tried that option, but it might not allow UU's.
Are you getting the fast workers and cheap libraries? (industrious and scientific).

I always play with that option. I just loaded up the game and tried to determine if that was the case. It seems it may be. It would also explain why the Carthaginians have spearmen in their cities.

Damn, now I feel like a newbie. I must have unchecked the box by accident when setting up the game.

Yeah, that's frustrating.

It's like making a scenario in order to mod certain aspects and getting half way through the game before you realize you forgot to load the scenario when you started the game.

...not that I've ever done that...

Wow. That must suck...a lot. I've never had that problem, however, because I am a strong believer in standard rules. Sorry about that. Frusterating.
