Treadin' trodden trails...
Here's what I'm thinking....Monarchy level conquest only with two rules:

(1) you cannot defeat ANY capital city until ALL non-capital cities (of ALL civs) are captured.

(2) no razing of cities.

Think of it as Civ3 8-ball.

BEWARE....culture flipping is going to be a problem. I'm putting the no-razing rule in so that we actually have to deal with it instead of razing cities next to the capital.

Personally, I want get better at dealing with CFs when in warmongering mode.

I'd like to get 4 or 5 in. Let me know if you are interested.

BTW...I'm thinking standard map, everything else random (including the civ). I'm open to being convinced otherwise though.

I'm only a Regent level player, but eager to try a higher level. I'll join if you want.

I've started playing Monarchy more but am still happy with Regent. I'll leave it open...once we get 5 players we'll put the difficulty level to a vote.

I've never played a SG before but I will play if the difficulty is on regent.

I'll join up too, I'm looking to improve my warmongering skills since I started taking a more aggressive approach to the game recently. Which civ were you thinking of playing as?

I'll join in if it's on Monarch difficulty. I usually play Emperor actually :)

As for the civilization, I'd suggest the Zulu. We'll want to be militaristic, and us having neither cultural attribute will bring cultural flipping even more into play. And the Impis are one of the best units to use to secure an area, with their defense and movement, and you can build them clear into the Industrial Age, I think.

Okay...it looks like we have at least two of us leaning towards Monarchy. I would prefer to lean that way. Please put up your hands if you are still in.

Regarding the CIV, I would like to avoid one of those civs with the ridiculously early Golden Age. I would like to go with the Militaristic, but maybe someone with a later UU. China? Industrious would work well. I think the expansionist trait is weaker in the higher difficulties because goody huts provide less loot.

Just a thought to run past you guys.

What size map are you going to play? If say a large or huge map with 60% water, you're going to need a gigantic military!!
In that case you guys might want to consider the Romans for the Commercial benefit. It's going to take a lot of gold to support that army. The early GA can suck though. Just thought I'd run that by you.

I don't want to go bigger than standard. My PC sucks about that. Thanks for the comments though.

Happy to play at Monarchy if that's what's wanted. As for the civ., I'm happy with any. I usually play as England or Egypt, so any other will be fine for me.

I'd prefer Standard for the sake of speed, too.

Okay...I'm going to start the game this weekend. Here's the deal:

Difficulty: Monarch
Size: Standard
Civ: First "random" Civ with Militaristic trait
# of Civs: The normal # for Standard map (I forget)
All map settings: Random
Barbarians: Random
Turns: 20

Rules: No taking capital until all non-capitals taken. No razing cities. No automating workers. No wimps. No "culture flipping sucks" posts. No mercy.

Confirmed Players
1. SirJethro
2. Pillager
3. Eklekticos
4. T-Hawk
5. ??

I'll start the game probably tonight or tomorrow.

what about autoraze?

Nothing we can do about autoraze. It is what it is.

Well, i think i will not join.

Id like to play please. id like to play monarch, but regent is ok if that is what is decided. I think a good civ fro this game would be the Japs. They are militaristic, which is always good in a conquest games. Also, the religious trait gives cheap temples, and that will hopefully stop some cities from flipping back.

Trickey...you are in. You'll be the 5th player. I let the computer decide our Civ. It's going to be the Germans.

Pre-game: GERMANS! First load out of the gate. We spawned right on top of Incense, with 2 add'l and a gold hill w/in our radius.

4000 - Berlin (warrior) is founded. Happy citizen high on incense. Research Iron Working: 1 gp to science (going for 40 turns...will trade for now)
3950 - zzz
3900 - zzz
3850 - zzz
3800 - zzz
3750 - zzz
3700 - zzz
3650 - zzz
3600 - zzz
3550 - zzz
3500 - Berlin: warrior/settler. Moving warrior south to explore. Hills, desert and tundra so far. Very little grassland.
3450 - River spotted to the south...geography improves.
3400 - zzz
3350 - Goody hut spotted.
3300 - Hut disturbs barbs. Wine spotted.
3250 - Barbs dead (barely). Warrior elite.
3200 - zzz
3150 - zzz...jungle south of river
3100 - Met Persian spearman/settler. Near our river. Want too much for Pottery. Will wait.
3050 - Persia plunks city near our river. But in the jungle.

Not a lot to say. This is a tough, crowded start. Good luck.

Question: I am assuming you guys also can't use the "abandon city" feature. If you could, then you could just capture a city and immediately abandon it.

Also, if you want to make it real tough, the rule could be that you can't starve captured cities either. Oh, and if an enemy civ gets a colony on a distant island which they refuse to trade for peace, well that could get *really* irritating.
