Right, their public office demands a certain level of professionalism. In that context, a person is not entitled to any opinion, but in this case, their viewpoint and mine/ours cross paths rather than swords. I think gender-neutral titles are probably the best way to go, moving forward.

In other news, Wikipedia says that the Virginia House of Delegates is the successor to the House of Burgesses, the first chamber of elected representatives in the Colonies, founded in Jamestown in 1619. So, yeah, almost 400 years.
 
Of course they are entitled to their opinion, how could they not be? Thought-control is not a thing, not even for government officials. ^^

They should of course keep that opinion out of their job and instead represent the people they're supposed to represent, and if they can't do that and their opinions are very much at odds with the people they represent, then they should resign.

Yes, you answered your own question. (Although I'm not sure what "thought control" has to do with it. As you say, that's not a thing. Maybe I'm confused. :confused: )
 
Well, you said a person is not entitled to that opinion. I took that as: "A person should not think of her as a man." and that if they can't let go of that opinion then they should not be in office - if of course you meant that you they can have that opinion but should not let it influence their actions, then we are in agreement, that's what I meant in my first post. They can have that opinion, but they need to be professionals who do not let that opinion lead them to stupid things like this childish attempt to avoid having to call her a she.

Its hard to accuratly describe the gender of delegates when they keep changing it. :rolleyes:
