Skills needed for Civ 5 modding?

3.) The ability to learn.

Laugh, but some people have really lost the ability to learn new tricks. It happens to the elderly commonly, but people can become so one-sided in some areas that they can not learn anything about certain subjects, due to bias, or just sheer inability.

I would call that Open Minded. Not be so one-sided that you hear what others are telling you. ;)

1.) Create Practical Ideas
2.) Be able to reject ideas, at any stage of development
3.) Be able to Learn
4.) Persevere

This seems about right to me.

And Phungus does have a point that technical skills and coding knowledge are very important.

I tend away from that one myself, and make other people do the heavy-code-lifting :-)

I have to agree with having to persevere. I could easily have given up on modding (and actually did for a short while) very early into the development of Star Trek simply because of a crash caused by Civ4DiplomacyInfos (a file the I didn't even know existed until I decided to take out the Warlords civs one at a time instead of all at once - earlier I got so many error messages that the game crashed even though nothing specific I did caused that CTD).

Great info guys, thanks a lot. I got caught up in some things and forgot about my post. I'll look into some C++ tutorials but I've tried it before and didn't succeed. That was before I got into Python, though.

I actually read a python tutorial before I knew the stuff I wanted to change was C++ and it worked out fine for me.
