I could only find a tiny pic to work from, but I think it turned out alright. I did try to skin it white, but in game and during rendering it comes out smoky gray. Skinning just isn't my thing. I used Dual's method of skinning way beyond the lines so if anyone needs the original bmp to see where to really skin let me know.

As far as I can recall, the colony pod in SMAC was closer to smoky gray than white, so I think that look awesome.

Thanks, that warms my heart. ;) I was thinking it was white, but this color works IMO.

Good work, that looks really cool. :scan:

I think it looks fine as grey too. But if you want it lighter, you might be able to do that by changing the model's material settings.

The firaxis documentation recommends that you set the material up this way:

Things of note: Ambient, diffuse, and specular are all [255, 255, 255] and emittance is [0, 0, 0]. This is what you want almost all the time, certain excetptions occure on objects that are billboarded ( why light a billboard object, so usually the emittance will be set to [255, 255, 255 ] on those). Make sure vertex color check box is unchecked with Source Mode set to Ignore and Light Mode set to E_A_D. Alpha Testing should be on, with NoSorter checked as well.

I've noticed that this setup shows up brighter in-game than the default 3DS settings. And if it still doesn't look right, you can fiddle with the different settings until you find a result that satifies you.
