Hey, what a great job everyone has done to keep SMAC alive! I finally decided to install and run my Planetary Pack version of SMAC/SMACX on Vista and I must say I'm impressed.

After I installed the game, the Firaxis Windows2000/XP Compatability Patch, and the Unofficial SMAC/SMACX patch..........the game fired up beatifully on vista. Even the widescreen monitor doesn't seem to stretch the graphics in any noticeable way.

I was certain there would be problems running such an old game, but what a surprize to have a this favorite title alive and well ten years after it was produced!

Is anyone still running a Game of The Month? I would like to play!

You should thank scient at CGN.

The latest GotM is Market Forces - June 2010 GotM Scenario. There are other GotM threads in this forum, although it may be easier to check the WePlayCiv download section (no registration required, not that it matters in your case). In addition, you can also find scenarios designed by Darsnan at Apolyton and older GotMs at Civilization Gaming Network.

As you can see, there is a June GotM. A July GotM hasn't been posted, but that may be a function of summer vacations, etc.

Edit: Xpost. I still like the download section as it is easier to find the GotMs!

Just played a game last night as the Pirates and couldn't have been happier. However, I like the old style mining platform better than the updated version as I feel it blends better with the art styles. Attached is my ter1 pcx file with the new mining platform replaced by the old one. (Since there is no SMAC Download Section.) Just copy/paste this file to replace your current ter1.pcx in the games main folder. (Save the original ter1.pcx first so you can switch back if you ever want to use the other mining platform art style again.)

Just thought some of you might feel the same as I and would like to have this.

I'll see about getting a CFC SMAC download section.

@Acronym2:

CFC now has an Alpha Centauri downloads section. It may be accessed via the Downloads link that appears at the top of this page.

Hey, that's good. Maybe the AC fans at Civfanatics will be able to better catalogue and save some of the AC user created content that is floating around the web. Not to mention becoming home to some new user creations as well.

By the way, I realize that sometimes the fanbase of these older games doesn't contain the "whiz kids" that may proliferate around some other titles. (DOW, COH, and CivIV seem to have some incredibly code and 3d savy fans!)

However, who is the resident "genious" for Alpha Centauri? I would like to get in touch with him/her.

That would without a doubt be scient. He has an account here, but would be most easy to reach at CGN.

Rubin has been working for a year on the Alpha Centauri Repository, a project to save important AC user created content. He is currently in the middle of a move, but you can PM him here (I see he logged in yesterday although he hasn't posted here in a year and a half) or at CGN (he is there right now).

We're also working on updating The SMAC Academy converting strategy posts at the CGN forum to a wiki.
