I am about to write a nice report about my current game (which I have been documenting rather excessively), but I just had an unusual thing happen. If you wish to remain surprised as I write out my report (which will be daily, and take several weeks, possibly, to complete), please do NOT read any further. But if you don't mind spoilers, please read, and see if you have had something similar occur.
For over 1800 years, very few barbarian uprisings, or rebel groups occured. Then, at around 1800 AD, a few of Ethopia's vassals started revolting. The revolts were small, and the mighty power of Ethopia (being a full 2.5 times stronger than me, the Hittite empire) meant that any uprising was quickly vanquished.
By 1850, a few rebel groups started nibbling away at Sumeria, a vassal of Mongolia, and I was only too happy to help out (So long as the rebels survived, I couldn't have a DP with Mongolia, so Greece could attack me. Also, I wanted to get Sumeria's cities, without warring with Mongolia, so that was sweet). So far so good. My technological ability is approximately 50 years ahead (I have WWII era planes in 1900 ... but only recently got WWI Ground troops >.<), so that should be a guideline for when the world ended.
So... a before picture first: 1895-1896

Note that there are 17 civilisations, excluding me.
Then, in 1897, the Byzantines violently overthrew Holy Rome:

No problem... that has happened before. Then in 1898, two new civilisations are born: Firstly, Rome, the result when Greece (what I thought was a VERY stable country, and about to declare war on me) gave away it's CAPITAL, and one of it's border cities to Rome peacefully:

And then Germany gave away one of it's colonies to Abynessia!

In 1899, three more civilisations appeared on the maps... Persia decided to ALSO overthrow Holy Rome:

Greece decided to give two MORE cities away to India:

And Sumeria decided to give a colony away to Native America, rather than face even more rebels at thier door-steps:

Note that Greece decided to vassalise the four cities it granted independance to in 1899.
Finally, at the turn of the century, a final civilisation appeared: The Celts. Violent rebels of Greece, not even giving into thier every demand stopped them from taking up arms:

For reference, these are the civics of each nation. And yes, the giant green blob is ALL Shaka, and his neighbours are ALL vassals of him

So... has anyone had a rebel army appear so suddenly?? Surely, Shaka can survive a small war against two rebel armies, but the spread of culture due to the combat will probably wipe out the Holy Romans. And Greece is unlikely to survive a twin attack from the Celts and me. (What?? Why else would I be researching Aerodynamics?? Go A-Bomb, Go!!) And with Sumeria's troop numbers able to be counted on 2 hands, and a stack of 20-something Arabian Rifles coming for his capital, Sumeria is good as gone too!!
I will keep you informed via the game report of the outcome of this, and who survives, and who doesn't (I have only played to 1901 so far
), but it was a shock, after having 2 millenia of a policy of 'wipe out all rebels within 10 turns', to increase the number of 'official' civilisations from 17 to 24!!
[Edit] The year is 1901, and the Aztec rebels rise up against China (An isolated empire on a small island off the coast of Greece, which has had a privateer problem for the past 200 years). In addition, the Vikings rise up against Russia (A small group of independant cities neighbouring Mongolia, which were liberated over 2000 years ago, currently a vassal of Mongolia). So make that 8 civs in 4 years
3 voluntary civilisations, and 5 rebels[/Edit]
